Beth, I loved reading your remembrances. The thing I remember most about being around Daddy and Uncles Grady, Bill, James, and Jack was their laughter. And it did change awfully fast. I miss them - and Mama Shaw and Daddy Shaw, too… and for that matter Mama Baird and Aunt Mary…

Thanks, Beth. I, too, thoroughly enjoyed your perspective on the Milstead gatherings. Like Joan I think its interesting to see events that I remember through the eyes of someone else. They are not identical to mine, but I also loved those times and those fives brothers. There have been no finer men
than Grady Shaw and his sons. And Mama Shaw could be cantankerous and bossy, but I loved her and, especially as I understood more of her life story, admired her.

Beautiful, Beth. As your sister, (niece to those same uncles; participant in those same Christmas traditions) your account gives me new perspective on my own memories. Since siblings share so much common history, but not the exact same memories, we really should “pool” them. We would learn a lot about each other, our ancestors, and even ourselves in the process.
