Mark In Mexico reports on the demise of common sense in Britain. Common Sense in Britain: RIP
He reports on a story from the London’s Telegraph of a physician in London who has endured 2 years of complaints and investigations stemming from his refusal to perform a pap smear on a 34-year old male.
The complaint has caused doctors in the west country practice to spend hours in meetings and writing replies to the local primary care trust over the complaint which began two years ago.
The refusal of one of the doctors to put Mr X on the recall list for cervical screening has resulted in a complaint and, as a result the doctor, practice manager and other practitioners have spent many hours, at the expense of the care of other patients, answering written inquiries.
For one of those you’ve got to be kidding moments - check out the story!

Dear Beth,
Are you kidding?
Her Majesty is just wondering. Really.
Very truly yours,

Dear Beth,
OK. Before you gather that the Queen of The World has misplaced the Royal Faculties, it is Her Majesty who is kidding.
But of course, you knew that already. Didn’t you.
Very truly yours,
EB

I don’t know - I keep hearing about how dangerous testicular cancer is - so I think I should be checked for that..and I’ll sue if my ob/gyn won’t do it… (wondering how much money and publicity I could get from that…) It’s ONLY FAIR!

Madam Empress - are you sure it’s Her Royal Majesty…..
We can’t be sure these days!
Carol - it’s worth a whirl! I mean, why not! You might be famous and can right a book and get a TV movie made out of it!

Carol, you’d have to be nuts to try that. Pun intended. Oh … if you get a TV movie deal, I’d like to guest-star as myself.
Beth, once each month, without fail, I am reminded that I am definitely a Queen, although Royal Heinie would say Witch is a more accurate description!

So what is the problem? Tie the guy down and smear him with pap… A few times of that and maybe he won’t come back.

I haven’t looked at the article, but off the top of my head I’m thinking of the folks who want socialized medicine!
However, I do remember the time my husband was billed for a pap test–guess someone coded incorrectly.
