Bowman - it’s not a traditional war. The individuals who carried out the attack didn’t represent a nation or state, but represented an ideology bent on our destruction.

To my way of thinking, that makes them even more dangerous. They are everywhere and very difficult to identify.

It is no different than the 1993 bombing, nor the Cole bombing, nor the bombing of the American embassies in Africa, etc.

All of those were acts of war that we ignored which lead to the one we couldn’t ignore.

There is a catch with #1 though: it wasn’t a state action but a non-government act launched by individuals w/out nation-state sponsorship.

Therefore, I’d go with #2.

What makes it any different than what happened in 1993 and the first WTC bombing? The only difference is 9/11 killed a hell of a lot more people.

It was definitely an act of war..not an unfortunate event. That is why we must stay at the ready and not let our guard down. That is why we must be vigilent. I have read people say we have lost more people to automobile accidents in a year but that is just what they are accidents this was deliberate.

I believe it’s certainly an act of war but I have to say it’s also quite a huge tragedy as well. I can’t leave out tragedy because so many people were involved and this is where I bring to the table the ‘act of war’. It’s not unlike a bomb blowing up or a missle hitting our country - that’s exactly what it was in many many ways.

These terrorist don’t value human life, the geniva convention or civilian or military.

It was an act of war. It was also an inhuman act of violence taken by individuals who’s aims are to subjugate us as much as any fascist dictator. It is war they asked for, it is war they should get. Whatever it takes!

They people who carried out the attacks on 9/11/01 declared it was an act of war — and they have continued the battle since then. DEFINITELY an act of war.
