As I predicted shortly after their kidnapping, here, it was Our Troops that rescued the remaining Christian Peace Activitists.
It goes without saying that this wasn’t a hard call for me to make.
So now they have been freed by the very forces they oppose. One would hope they would now understand that all conflicts are not solved through passivism. One would hope they would not appreciate the hard work and significant risks our Soldiers undertook to rescue them. One would think ….
Sadly, apparently they don’t.
Apparently they don’t have the first clue.
From the Associated Press story:
From The Christian Peacemaker Teams said the activists went to Iraq “motivated by a passion for justice and peace.” Group volunteers have been in Iraq since October 2002, investigating allegations of abuse against Iraqi detainees by coalition forces. Its teams promote peaceful solutions in conflict zones.
“They knew that their only protection was in the power of the love of God and of their Iraqi and international co-workers,” Pritchard said.
I have to interupt this for a second. I think they left out Coalition troops …..
He also called for coalition forces to leave the country.
Another interuption - good thing they didn’t leave before they rescued you.
“We believe that the illegal occupation of Iraq by Multinational Forces is the root cause of the insecurity which led to this kidnapping and so much pain and suffering in Iraq,” Pritchard said.
Yes, the Middle East has always been a stable region of the world. Right up until the Americans went there. You might want to brush up on your Bible studies. I believe the instability there has gone on since - oh, I don’t know - ABRAHAM!
Other Americans taken hostage in Iraq and killed in addition to Fox were Ronald Schulz, 40, an industrial electrician from Anchorage, Alaska; Jack Hensley, 48, a civil engineer from Marietta, Ga.; Eugene “Jack” Armstrong, 52, formerly of Hillsdale, Mich.; and Nicholas Berg, 26, a businessman from West Chester, Pa.
The last hostage to be freed in a military operation was Douglas Wood, an Australian rescued in west Baghdad by U.S. and Iraqi forces on June 15 after 47 days in captivity.
So the last one released was also rescued by MILITARY FORCES.

This really isn’t that complicated. As well-intentioned as these people may be, there are fundamental, commonsensical truths that they might want to try to grasp.
One is that you can’t reason with unreasonable people.
Another is that there are predators in the world. There are people who view naive people like you as fodder to be used for their own agendas. I believe it was Stalin that called people of that nature ‘useful idiots’.
Still another thought - You seem to have overlooked the fact that you are able to carry out your ‘mission’ of aiding the enemies of your countries only because there are men and women who will put themselves in harms way to protect and rescue you. You are only able to do that because you live in countries whose people have ensured that freedom for you with the blood of our heros.
While a world free from conflict, pain and sorrow is a wonderful idea, it’s just an idea. It might look good on paper or in your Bible studies safely tucked away in your homes far away. But the reality is there are men on the front lines who keep those homes safe so that your can dream your dreams and fantasize about how passive resistance would just bring everyone together. If only we understood the enemy they would love us.
You deny your friend Tom Fox was tortured and killed. You brush that off as the Will of God. No, it was the will of your captors and would have been your fate had Marines not rescued you.
I believe God is there for us. But I also believe He expects us to use a little bit of common sense and judgement.
About a year ago, a soldier who is currently serving in Iraq told me about a mission he went on into one of the towns there. Their mission was to clear out some terrorists who had been terrorizing, killing and maiming the towns people who would not cooperate with them.
This soldier told me when they went into the town they were suddenly confronted by a group of Western Peace Niks who started shouting and throwing rocks at them. Demanding they leave and calling them all sorts of names.
As all this broke out, snipers started shooting at the soldiers from the buildings around them. The snipers were shooting at the soldiers AND the peace niks.
Clever of the terrorists - to use the peace niks to expose the Soldiers. Then the Soldiers had to protect themselves AND the Peace Niks.
The Soldier who was telling me about it was laughing. It was the kind of laugh someone laughs when they are telling you something they know sounds unbelievable.
Soldiers were wounded that day because of those Peace Niks. But the Soldiers protected them anyway.
They didn’t thank the Soldiers - the Soldiers got them out of there and they went on their way. Where ever they go.
One last concept the Christian Peace Niks might have failed to grasp. Gratitude.
You might want to thank the Soldiers that risked their lives to save you.
BTW, Soldiers have died to rescue and protect people like you. The least you can do is acknowledge that.

Update from Euphoric Reality:
UPDATE: The CPT set up a blog to accept well wishes for those rescued idiots. I posted a comment thanking the soldiers for risking their lives to free the men. They are moderating comments, so we’ll have to see if they allow it to be posted. I phrased it very nicely, but I doubt they’ll post it. Why don’t you guys give it a try?

There was honking. There was singing. There was praying. There was dancing. There were signs, strollers, speakers, and there were shoes. Lots of shoes….
I See Red People…
I have a conspiracy theory of my own.
I think many of these alleged kidnappings in Iraq have been staged as a way to undermine our efforts there.
The latest group of Christian Peace Workers was just rescued by US and British forces. But did th ……
Ingratitude. Sign of a weak morality and poor ethic.
Heck, as low as these folks are, even I’m grateful to the folks who pulled ‘em out.
And not entirely for the obvious reasons. heh
I couldn’t believe what they said and did when they were rescued. Inconsiderate idiots!
