Legendary test pilot Albert Scott Crossfield was the first man to fly an aircraft at twice the speed of sound.

He was found dead today in the wreckage of his plane in the North Georgia mountains.

He was 84 years old.

More of the story.

More of his career.

This just struck me as interesting. He lived into old age. He made his mark in the world through aviation. He died alone with his plane crashing into the beautiful North Georgia mountains.

Thanks to AubreyJ for the story.
