		<description>Dear friend,

You know, I grew up too young for Vietnam by a couple of years. My dad commanded an anti-aircraft group in WWII, was in the first wave of American involvement, invading Tunisia, then Corsica, Marseilles and all the way up the Rhone valley. One of my brothers ran the communications center out of the Saigon airport. Another of my brothers served in Germany during the war.

I should have done a stint in the military, but in the late 1970's (under Carter, my God) there just wasn't any incentive. With the Reagan revolution, I was already in grad school combatting liberals on a different battle field. Before I knew it, I was too old to serve. If they ever get to 48 year olds, I'll be the first in line. As a lawyer and Ph.D. historian, I think I should be able to offer something. But I have to admit, I feel tremendously deficient when I talk to some of my regular contributors, who have served and who have suffered.

Anyway, keep up the good work, friend. Your blog is important and I'll do what I can to support it.

All the best,
Tom</description>
