Who died was killed in the terrorists attacks of September 11, 2001? Look at their faces. They are not any different than me and you.

It is sad to me that we so soon forget when we have been so viciously attacked. So many don’t want to be reminded. We just want to get on with our lives and put that ugliness behind us. 

In the days after 9/11, as we sat in disbelief and watched the devastation unfold on our television sets, my Beloved Curmudgeon said that in time the sick and cowardly would start nay-saying about retribution and would start making excuses for the acts of war that were committed that day.

I told him he was wrong. This was worse than Pearl Harbor. There’s no way we can white-wash this. We are at war and we will see it through. I told him there’s no way to spin this.

He was right and I was wrong.

Unbelievably, it has been put neatly away in the past. People call it a ‘criminal act’ of a few people. Some people want to believe that if we just catch Osama bin Laden we will have won the war. Some people want to believe it only had to do with one sect of Islam, the Taliban. Some people have conspiracy theories. I’ve heard it was a Zionist conspiracy and a Bush administration conspiracy.

I suppose anything is less frieghtening than the reality that there has been a war between Islam and Western civilization for years now. It just took 9/11 to get our attention.

I haven’t brought myself to go see United 93 yet. I will, I want to, I just haven’t as yet.

These posts are important. It’s important for us to remember. We need to remember how we felt that day, the people who were killed that day, and since then, and that this fight is not yet finished.

We need to remember for a lot of reasons, partly so it won’t take more blood to get our attention again.
