From The Anchoress
I think the throwing-under-the-bus-of-George-W-Bush by “the base†is one of the most shameful things I have ever witnessed in all my years of watching politics, from both sides of the political spectrum.

Read the rest of The Anchoress’ post, The Essential President Bush. It’s an excellent well-written analysis of Bush and his presidency. She also writes:
You “base†have received a great good. You’ve forgotten it. Continue to do so at your - at all our - great peril.

I’m in total agreement with you. It is shameful and so disrespectful….I whole-heartedly support our President and our Troops. I love that picture….just awesome.
It is really sad that more people do not know or hear about good news and wonderful things that our President has done while he has been in office. The polls I pay no mind to, most are clever questions to suit the bias ones that put them out. We should all being thanking God for our President and for him doing everything possible to keep us safe. I would not even be able to sleep at night if Kerry was up there. We have been blessed, and people should wake up and realize that.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ve been enjoying what Anchoress has been posting for some time, regarding the illegal immigration issue and President Bush; but I have yet to post there, because I was having trouble before, logging in. I’ll try again.

Peace Hero - President Bush…
I found this picture at Beth’s Blue Star Chronicles.
You have to know that the people of Iraq are thankful for their freedom and we are happy for them.

Wow!!!!!!!!!! I came here via Suzie and just got done reading the Anchoress’s post. I can’t tell you how encouraged I am by it. I have felt so alone recently. I feel exactly the same way and feel that most of the conservatives around me are angry and think I’m crazy for staying loyal to Bush. Thank-you so much for doing this and for linking to the Anchoress’s post.
I have been talking about similar issues on my blog and I will be linking to all of this and joining the Victory Wing of the Republican party.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Ronald Reagan joined the Republican Party, after a lifetime of being a Democrat, he said that he hadn’t left the Democrat Party it had left him. I feel that way about Mr. Bush.
In 2000 when he was running for president as a conservative I was standing right beside him. In the past 6 years I haven’t moved one inch, so why are we now so far apart?
How will you feel about him in 20 years when the Mexicans that he is working so hard to allow into the nation and fast track into citizenship create an unbreakable Democrat majority? How will you feel about Mr. Bush when nobody to the right of John Kerry can be elected president? When the ACLU is picking the judges appointed to the Supreme Court.
I admire and approve of what the President has done to fight the Islamofascists, but the fight against illegal immigration is vastly more important. Look at the results of the last election. Only a few million votes seperate the Democrats and Republicans. How will that balance be affected by 10-20 million Mexicans 70+ percent of which will vote Democrat?

Hey Lemuel
I have hesitated to post much on the illegal alien issues because I feel like I need to learn so much more about it to be able to give any where near intelligent responses.
Here’s my thinking on it. I think the war on terror is vital and we are in real danger. China has gotten so much stronger (in part thanks to the nuclear technology they attained during the Clinton administration). Iran is flexing it’s muscle, North Korea is too, etc.
My biggest complaint with President Bush is that I feel he needs to take a stronger stance with terrorist states.
I have read a lot of the blogs and news stories about the illegal immigration issues. I agree - it’s a make or break situation and needs to be addressed properly.
I think that Pres Bush has done more than previous presidents have done to address the issue. But of course, much more needs to be done.
For instance, I don’t believe a wall will work. That’s just my personal feeling. I know a lot of people are calling for a wall. But they’ll get over it, tunnel under it, come across the water.
I think troops there as a temporary measure are a good idea - but only while more Border patrol are trained. But we have enormous borders that are porous in so many ways. There aren’t enough ways to guard it.
It’s not just that border - it’s the ports, Canada and thousands and thousands of miles of open borders.
It is an enormous problem that has been ignored for years and the answers aren’t going to be easy or painless - in my opinion.
In my view it is not a fixable situation unless it is addressed through the corporations that hire them. They need to be fined and fined heavily - otherwise they will keep coming. And Mexico needs to be fixed - but there’s little we can do to make Mexico less corrupt.
I suppose, well I know, that my feelings on this are just that - feelings. I have a bad feeling that if the Republican party splits, it will give an in-road to the democrats and the dems getting power would be disasterous for us as a nation. Instead of spliting power we need to consolidate power.
I also think those demonstrations were much to well timed and well organized. Who organized them and why? Why all of the sudden were there hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens marching in the streets with perfectly done up signs? When in our town, they keep as low a profile as they can keep. If they have a wreck, they abandon the car and take off before the police get there. Who financed those demonstrations?
There is so much Bush hatred out there that there are people who would destroy this country just to bring him down. So for me, I have to think it through more.
I admit that’s based on a feeling which isn’t at all scientific, but it’s a strong feeling and I’m trying to sort it out in my head. I feel it is important enough right now that the route we take will determine the future of this nation. So my instinct is to be still and hold the line until the answers get clearer. Right now I’m not clear on what the answers are.
That probably doesn’t make much sense, but it’s how I feel. I am certainly open for discussion and willing to look at it in another way. My hope is that we can save this country - I care more about that than any one person or political party.

Thanks for answering in detail. I think that your feelings match a great many people’s right now. Since your reply had many points that need to be addressed I am going to post my answer on my blog this evening. If you want to you can read it there.
