I have to get some work done, but this is just too good to pass up. Every once in a while I just have to post a feel-good story.
Michael Moore, who has become enormously wealthy with what he calls documentaries, twisting and rearranging facts, quotes, photos, etc for his own aggrandizement, is being sued by a mere American Soldier.
Of all things, An American Soldier!!! That is just such sweet justice.
I have no idea what the Soldier’s chances are against the mega-millions Michael Moore can throw into legal fees. Isn’t that ironic? Michael Moore who proclaims himself the champion of the little man is anything BUT a little man himself.
A double-amputee Iraq-war vet is suing Michael Moore for $85 million, claiming the portly peacenik recycled an old interview and used it out of context to make him appear anti-war in “Fahrenheit 9/11.â€Â
Sgt. Peter Damon, 33, who strongly supports America’s invasion of Iraq, said he never agreed to be in the 2004 movie, which trashes President Bush.
In the 2003 interview, which he did at Walter Reed Army Hospital for NBC News, he discussed only a new painkiller the military was using on wounded vets. “They took the clip because it was a gut-wrenching scene,†Damon said yesterday. “They sandwiched it in. [Moore] was using me as ammunition.â€Â
Damon seems to “voice complaint about the war effort†in the movie, according to the lawsuit.
But what the father of two from Middleborough, Mass., was really talking about was the “excruciating†pain he felt after he lost his arms when a Black Hawk helicopter exploded in front of him. Damon wasn’t expressing any opinion about the war, the suit charges, but rather extolling the drug.
“I just want everybody to know what kind of a guy Michael Moore is, and what kind of film this is,†said Damon. He has appeared in two films attacking “Fahrenheit†-“Michael Moore Hates America†and “Fahrenhype 9/11.†…
Particularly outrageous to Damon is the fact that Moore never interviewed him or asked his permission to use the old clip.
I hope this gets media attention, if for no other reason than giving this Soldier the opportunity to regain his reputation, his dignity and his honor.
It would also be pretty nice if Moore got to share some of his wealth. Since he advocates so sincerely for socialism I think he should have the opportunity to put his enormous money where his enormous mouth is.

The Iraqis who have risen up against the occupation are not ‘insurgents’ or ‘terrorists’ or ‘The Enemy’. They are the REVOLUTION, the Minutemen, and their numbers will grow - and they will win.

This lawsuit should be pretty straightforward. I imagine the vet gave power of attorney to someone in his family, so either Moore has a signed authorization form or he doesn’t.
If the vet can prove that
1. his statements were taken out of context
2. Moore purposely took them out of context
3. he experienced negative responses as a result of his statements being taken out of context
Then he’ll get damages.
Moore is an assclown, right up there with O’Reilley and company.

Seems there is a slight problem with this guys lawsuit- Michel Mooore didn’t interview him NBC news did, he signed a release (or if he didn’t his suit against Moore still has no grounds) Moore inturn purchased the footage from NBC(or didn’t seems like they would have done something by now).

I thought you all were against frivolous lawsuits?

I’m pretty sure “being taken out of context” isn’t an actionable offense.

Great…funny….true post. Mike Moore is such a loser. I am so tired of these valueless people running around offering no solutions, but only pointing fingers and slandering other Americans. I ask that Jenny Craig recruit Mr. Moore and put him to work as a failed project.

I’m as liberal as they come, but even I am glad to see this soldier standing up to that idiot Moore. Whether or not he gave his permission for somebody to use that footage, to have one’s words and image twisted to fit into such a propaganda film is beyond insulting to one’s honor, especially for a soldier who bled for our nation. Though it may be *legal* for Moore to have done what he did, it certainly isn’t morally right, and I hope that Sgt. Damon prevails in court. Lawsuits may be a pain in the ass, but unfortunately these days you can’t just call somebody out to the Field of Honor to settle things. Sgt. Damon may have lost both his arms, but I’d put my money on a double amputee US soldier up against Michael Moore in a fight anyday.
