Kim Jong-Il is up to something. North Korea is the poster child for the utter failure of communism as a form of government.

North Korea is also a prime example of why Truman should not have relieved General MacArthur of his command and finished the Korean War.

Unfinished conflict always comes back to bite you at some point.

Kim Jong-Il is the poster child for what happens when a pampered, spoiled, sheltered, priviledged son of a supreme leader is given absolute power over a country and a people.

Now, it appears, Mr. Kim is pitching a temper tantrum. Or at the very least, letting the world know he’s still there and still working on his nukes.

There are a myriad of concerns about Kim’s failed attempt to launch his missles today. Practice makes perfect and eventually, he will succeed. There are concerns about alliances between North Korea and Iran and the sharing of technology.

Not least of the concerns is the marriage of insanity with nuclear technology - whether it’s in North Korea or Iran.

So I did some photoshopping earlier today just for fun. Any suggestions for captions of these two photos?

What other’s are saying about North Korea:

Texas Fred helps shows North Korea what a successful launch looks like.

AubreyJ has afternoon updates and says they are pressing their luck.

Blogs of War says we will see the usual diplomatic outrage and symbolic acts while Kim continues to play with his nukes.

Stop the ACLU has lots of links and updates.

Iowa Voice adds:

One more thing: talk about clueless. The Daily Kos says “Look who’s responsible”at the feet of Pakistan. I guess they forget it was their hero, Bill Clinton, who was really behind all this. Clinton was many things to liberals, but virtually all of the security issues we face today are a direct result of him being a giant appeaser. He was, in effect, the Neville Chamberlain of the United States, in that he talked tough and would put on a show, but when the chips were down, you couldn’t count on him to protect this country.

Alexandra’s photo at the top of her post says it all. Go see it at All Things Beautiful. She has a time line of events and wonders if we will respond with carrots rather than sticks.

There is an interesting and, I hate to use the word, provocative theory over at Right Wing Nuthouse:

But secondly theres that curious failureĀ of the ICBM about 40 seconds after launch. The Taepodong 2 had a successful test in 1998, buzzing Japan by flying over Japanese territory for much of its flight. Now, I haven’t seen this speculation anywhere else, but it could be that the missile was deliberately destroyed by the North Koreans themselves. Why? Because by launching the missile and then destroying it, Kim proves a point without being too provocative. He pulls the lion’s tail without awakening the beast so that it turns and mauls him. Kim gets his headlines on America’s birthday while proving to the world he can defy the United States.

July 5, 2006 A 7th missile launched this morning. Ed at Captain’s Quarters wonders if this is it or will we see another grouping like we did last night.

Expose the Left says that Bush may have been on to something.

chez Diva’s feminine intuition is telling her that Kimmie-poo would die if he went one day without his volumizing hair gel and his hip-hop velour sweatsuits.
