From KillCastro
Those were the words of a friend of mine describing the amazing sunrise in el Malecon. He went even further: “this light is the light of freedom, nothing will be the same in this country”.

For Whom the Bells Won’t Toll
That’d be a great title for a novel about the final days of the beast.
No bell will ever toll for him.
At least, not in mourning.
The only bells that will toll will do it for the beginning of a new era for Cuba and the Cubans, the bells will herald a new country, the awakening of the Phoenix from its ashes, Cuba will stand up from the mud, the blood, the debris, and will recuperate its place among the free nations.
The carcass of the dictator will lie, without pain or glory.
The only tears that are going to be shed will be the tears of joy.
The bells are not tolling for you, fidel kasstro.
The bells are tolling for a brand new nation under the sun.
A commenter on that post says that tears of joy will flow when the great bells of freedom toll across the island.
I remember as a child a family who were friends of our family. I remember they were a very successful, well educated family, but talked about losing everything and taking a boat from their home in Cuba to freedom in the United States. As a child, I found their talk fascinating. I couldn’t imagine why someone would leave everything at their home to start over in another country. I imagined them swimming across the ocean and I had a romanticized idea in my head of what life in Cuba must have been like. And I imagined what it must have been like to make a great escape such as they had.
I haven’t thought of any of that in years. I do remember that family whenever I hear anything about Cuba. With the rumors of the death, illness, or near death of the evil communist dictator castro my thoughts go back to them again.
The imagination of a child was just that, imagination. I’m sure there was nothing exciting or romantic about having to flee the tyrany of castro for their lives. I hope they will soon be able to reunite with any family members still living in Cuba.
I hope they will soon be able to return, finally, to their home. In freedom.
