Poor Claire McCaskill is worn slap out after her run for the Senate. I’m sure her constituents in Missouri who voted her into office just last week understand that she needs a vacation.

She shouldn’t be expected to actually START the job she campaigned to get - sheesh - you think you elected her to be a work horse or something?

This week when all the other freshman Senators are in orientation and the dems are electing their leadership positions Claire is on vacation. I’m sure it’s because she’s more tired than the other elected officials. Pampering IS important for the very wealthy, you know.

Oh - and she’s been assigned to the Homeland Security committee. I hope she takes that a bit more seriously.

McCaskill skips Senate orientation for vacation

WASHINGTON | Missouri Democrat Claire McCaskill is the only one of 10 newly elected members of the U.S. Senate who is skipping this week’s orientation for freshmen.

McCaskill, who defeated Republican Sen. Jim Talent last week, is on a long-planned vacation she had promised her family, win or lose, said spokeswoman Adrianne Marsh. She cleared the trip in advance with soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Marsh said.

“Before she left, she spoke with Senator Reid and took care of all potential business necessary in her absence, including votes and committee preferences,” Marsh said. “He understood her decision to be with her family and looked forward to working with her upon her return.”

Tod Martin, former operations director for the campaign, is leading McCaskill’s transition effort and is in Washington this week, handling business on her behalf, Marsh said.

“This is private time with her family,” Marsh said. “With so much of her life splashed across the screen for months on end, her family deserves a little privacy to recuperate.”


I seriuosly hope she doesn’t say something about being a ‘working woman’ - that WILL NOT go over well with those of us who really ARE working women with families.
