I recently came across a long article in a 2004 New Yorker magazine stating that two sets of laws governed the Jews and the Palestinians in the West Bank and that those applying to the Palestinians were draconian. The gist of the article was that this is the definition of apartheid and that Israel was pursuing a policy of apartheid, I don't recall any uproar at the time.I have read that the two most powerful lobbies in the U,S. are the NRA and the Jewish Lobby. One,the NRA is outfront and unapologetic and seemingly un concerned what anybody thinks. The other is so successful that it is virtually invisible and has seemingly implanted its point of view into the public consciousness so stealthily and successfully that its opinions are considered reality rather than a point of view and an extreme one at that.It is like a gigantic version of the guilt inducing Jewish mother. Such a monstrous and terrible thing happened to the Jewish people that if you criticize any Jew in any way or any policy of the stste of Israel in any way one is being anti-semitic. I am sure many Jews see what is happening in dismay, but the only voice we hear is that Israel must protect itself and thus it can do anything and can do no wrong. What percentage of advisors promoting an invasion into Iraq were Jewish compared to the percentage of the Jewish population? What percentage of the people resigning from the Carter Center and villifying President Carter are Jewish. And as one example of wrongful and destructive policies is the invasion of Lebanon. Things were relatively stable and Lebanon had a pro western government. Israel invaded and wrecked a country over two Jewish soldiers. How much more valuable is a Jewish life considered to be than anybody elses? And now there are riots with hezbollah attempting to overthrow the government. Israel could have peace and security, but it continues to pursue Zionist policies or does not prevent Jewish extremists from doing it for them. Get every settlement out of the West Bank, build an impregnable Wall along the 1967 lines and the world will try to help Israel be safe. But it appears that Israel wants to nibble its way to a greater Zionist state no matter whom it hurts or disenfranchises and no matter that it endangers its greatest and most loyal ally, the U.S. who has drunk its kool-ade.

Beth,

There was time, circa 1979 that I actually sympathized with Jimma.

I now find him disgusting and wretched.

What an arse...

BSC: I know what you mean. I actually thought he was just kinda a benign guy who was just too nice to be a president. But lately is a whole different story ....

Open Trackback Weekend #37...

I'm starting the OTA early because I'm likely to be unavailable most of the weekend. Just leave a post and you'll get a trackback ping from me. Since I send trackbacks manually, it may take awhile for it to show up. Sorry 'bout that...
