A President's Tears

I watched the news clip of President Bush awarding the Medal of Honor to Cpl. Jason Dunham posthumously.

Marine Cpl. Jason Dunham was posthumously awarded the nation’s highest honor for valor at a ceremony Thursday at the White House.

Dunham, who dived on a live grenade to shield his troops during an ambush in Iraq, is only the second U.S. servicemember to be given the top military honor for actions in that country, and the first Marine.

The raw emotion expressed by the President was sincere and moving. It was obvious that he feels the responsibility of this war and the sacrifices being made at the very source of his being. It is etched in the wrinkles that are deepening in his face and in the graying of his hair.

I have strongly disliked the way this war has been fought. I strongly feel it has been mishandled. Regardless who might have said what when, the President is the Commander and Chief. All who have a say about the war answer to him. They all serve at the pleasure of the President. He is responsible for how it has been fought. The weight of it is on him.

Still, from my heart, I see him in these situations and know that he is passionate about it and understands the responsibility of it constantly. For that, I support him.

Well done Cpl. Dunham. You served your country and your men well.
