I admire your patience in hunting for the info, I do not have it. My mother started her search, but died before she got very far. And if I found stories like some of your interesting ones and had no way of finding the outcome, it would drive me crazy, but I enjoyed your list and it did make me just a tad bit curious about my own.

That's awesome that you have been able to do so much genealogy work on your ancestry. I'm third-generation Irish and third-generation German. I get stalled out when I go any further back than my great grandparents.

Happy TT!

To your question about what kind of women I were : I think I were the last one, household, loving wife and child about in this order. Lol ! Now I am n° 13 "I don't know" Since I am retired, I don't do household at all anymore (I still have my cleaning woman, no child and for the rest ... we are getting old, lol !

I've been dubbed the family historian (grudgingly), but have been totally captured by it. Two short bits;

GGGGG? Grandmother was Opechancanough Niketti Powhatan ( "She Who Sweeps The Dew from the Flowers"), sister or relative of Pocahantas and grand daughter of Wahunsonacock (aka Chief Powhatan.) My Aunts were not delighted when I found this.

My GGG Aunt was given the glorious name of; Henrietta Henningham Monongahela Codrington Carrington Elizabeth Wirt Watkins, supposedly the longest legal name of record.

It's fun.

BSC: That's so exciting! You are a little bit kin to Pocahantas! I've found things in my family history that some people weren't very happy about. But I figure EVERYBODY has all sorts in the family history - otherwise it'd be seriously boring! lol It is fun!

Well, all I can say is I am glad some of those are on your Dad's side and not related to me!!!!
I am now in the process of research mama's family. I have hit a brick wall in a couple of places. I am using Ancestry.com at the moment. Do you have any advice for me????
Hope you stop by my T13 even though it is a little dull compared to yours!

BSC: I hate to break the news, but most of those are your ancestors too! lol But not all of them. There are a ton of brick walls - especially being from the South. So many of the records were lost in the Civil War - things seemed to be catching on fire a lot around here back then!

Ancestry is good. There are a lot of good internet sites for research, which makes it SO much easier. BTW - I found some info on our gg'father William Baird that I'm trying to verify. I think he connects to the Baird family of North Carolina - which takes us up a whole different line than has been previously thought. But that's for another time :)

Oooooh I love family history. I have bone-fide pirates in mine as well my mother's great grandmother's family. Mine were not "privateers" as yours would be called in the UK. That is pirates that are paid by the Crown to attack the enemy. Mine were the attack other ships and keep the booty for yourself type.

Originally descended from Vikings and my 7th great greadmother came over from the Baltics so not much change there :)

BSC: You are right about the 'privateers', I didn't think of that. (Please don't tell my husband - he likes the idea of having pirate ancesters! lol) I strongly suspect they kept more for themselves than they gave to the King! lol My husband is directly descended from the Vikings as well. I have a whole nuther story about THAT! lol Thanks for coming by.

Unfortunately for me, I can't go very far back in the family tree... Just up to my great grandparents at the earliestt. Definitely not as well documented as this!

BSC: Well, these are just a few I managed to find. I have several brick walls myself :)

I have done the same as you with the genealogy, on and off again for years. I found your post really interesting, I don't have nearly the history that you have and it was wonderful to read.

BSC: Thank you! I've just been lucky to run across tidbits of stories here and there. A little booklet written by someone at the time or a newspaper article gives personality to whoever you are researching and I've been lucky enough to run across a few of those along the way.

I love these family researches ! It's so interesting ! So you had some killers and nobles in the family, lol ! My american uncle who had married my mother's sister found out that two brothers had imigrated from Germany (Hamburg) to N.Y in 1814 and one of them was his gg-grandfather and the other my aunt's isn't that a coincidence ?

BSC Yes that is! How funny. It's really funny to see how the different lines of our families cross paths over generations.

Dudley lived out the rest of his life in Mississippi.

Being one who was born and reared in Mississippi, might I ask what part of the state did Dudley live out his remaining days?

BSC: Dudley died in Pontocola, Pontotoc County, Mississippi

The brothers, James and Pleasant were jailed and died in Marshall County, Mississippi and I just realized I miswrote that - they went out there before the Civil War. They were in jail out there in 1855. I'll have to correct myself! I guess having Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome wouldn't be their defense then! :)

Being one who was born and reared in Mississippi, might I ask what part of the state did Dudley live out his remaining days?
