UPDATE: High Desert Wander let me know that the photos below are photoshops. The real photos can be seen at snoops.com. I shoulda known better - but I didn’t check it out. Thanks HDW for the heads up
The fashion industry is debating the issue of ultra-skinny models. Can you imagine the debate? Wouldn’t you just love to be a fly on that wall ….
Leaders from the Chambre Syndicale, Italy’s Camera Nazionale della Moda, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the British Fashion Council met this week on the sidelines of Paris couture week to discuss their 2008 calendar and the health debate.
They agreed to take part in a debate on the delicate issue, the statement said, without elaborating.
Nothing further was decided at the Wednesday gathering, but the head of the French body said he was against adding fresh regulations in the wake of similar moves by Madrid and Milan.
“We must inform people, but above all not regulate the sector more than it already is,” said Didier Grumbach. “Regulation is something that weighs down the atmosphere.”
It’d weigh down the atmosphere - get it? Yeah. Me too.
France’s Chambre Syndicale said in its statement it had agreed to participate in a working group organized by the Health Ministry. Grumbach had initially said the debate on eating disorders did not concern the fashion industry and it did not plan to take part.
Eating disorders don’t concern the fashion industry or the fashion industry isn’t concerned with eating disorders? Doesn’t matter. Not their problem. There’s ALWAYS another girl waiting to take the place of whoever falls out of line. Or collapses from starvation.
Does anyone see this as sexy?

They’re just hangers with a pulse ……

I keep having the funny feeling I’ve seen these photos somewhere before.
Oh, yeah, I remember …..

“We must inform people, but above all not regulate the sector more than it already is,” said Didier Grumbach. “Regulation is something that weighs down the atmosphere.”

Oh dear God! How horrible - debunked photos or not - they are awful. Anorexia is a horrible disease and has killed many women and young girls. Debunked or not these are terrible images for our youth to see and what a horrible example of just how depraved our society has become.
Thanks for this post Beth.

I’m not in favour of regulating much of anything. BUT this is something I might consider a good thing. These models are role models for our young girls. There are web sites out there, blogs, owned by 10, 11 and 12 yr olds sharing these images and instructions on how to get this look…
How to vomit after eating; how much to eat, how much NOT to drink (water)…it’s sad.
One of the skinny models here is considered FAT too by many of the hundreds of girls who flock to this particular site.
There’s nothing wrong with a size 6. These models are size -6.

I love tall girls (married one), short girls (married one), big bosomed, small bosomed, skinny or fat, shy or outgoing, quiet or talky; god save me I love them all, but making love to these girls would be like having sex with underage boys - no thank you.

Even if they are “photoshopped”, I actually think that the origins are bad enough….
Since I’ve been very skinny myself when I was younger, I know what HELL it is to be skinny, so I don’t find this a bit attractive at all. This trend we have is really dangerous.
I do hope it will change soon…. *sigh*
BSC: Me too, Lifecruiser! I started to take it down when I found out they had been altered, but I decided to leave them because the original photos were not that much better. It’s a dangerous trend.

I don’t understand why do people listen to what people think about them because what people think about you should not matter the most but only what you think of yourself, you have to learn to love yourself the way you are because if you don’t then you end up having a low self-esteem of yourself which leads you to starving yourself, trying to get attention from men in order to make yourself to feel better about your self image. At the end of the day its me, myself and I so don’t put yourself through torture just to be acepted in a modeling agency, boyfriend and friends. Im only 16 this year and I also went though the same problems of trying to get approval from family and friends because I was fat to them, when actually i wasn’t my older sister was smaller and shorter than me, which made me seem fatter and bigger. And everyone at home used to tell me i was fat, till i ended up losing a lot of weight and eat 1 meals a day, i ended up underweight and my teachers saw that i had changed in weight, i felt really bad when i was told i was skinny. I started to realise that i was okay the way i was when i watch Tyra Banks show, she opend my eyes. I realise that in order for me to have a wonderful body i should except myself for who i am, Sijabu. And today i am proud to say that i love myself the way i am, because I am who i want to be, whether im fat or skinny, i would just like to voice t those who are struggling to actually look at what they sees positve not negative of there slef image. Its just all about loving yourself, not waiting for someone else to love you 1st and also waiting for ones approval of how you look. Its your body that you have to put up with everyday of your life NOT them who think your not beautiful. Im not a person who people would say im beautiful but deep inside i know im beautiful whether they like my exterior or not i dont give a damn because its NOT there body but mine which i have lived with for 16 years and is still operating well even though it ain’t the best in the world but its the best to me and GOD! So love yourself 1st before other can even love you! Positveness can get far… Love you all!
