SHEBOYGAN, Wis. A Sheboygan woman is accused of neglecting her children by leaving them in a freezing car while she visited a tanning salon.Sheboygan police say they were called by a citizen who saw the children in the car yesterday afternoon when the temperature was about 12 degrees.
The children are 23 months and 10 years.
Officials say the children were in the car for about 20 minutes. They were dressed warm, but the car was cold.
Lori Yeager told police she was leaving on vacation and needed to tan.
According to Lieutenant Mike Williams from the Sheboygan Police, “Yeager was issued a misdemeanor citation and released while her children were released to the custody of her husband.”
Authorities say the children were unharmed.
Yeager has not been charged yet….but is scheduled to appear in Sheboygan County Court on February 26th for her initial appearance.
In my daily life, I hear a lot about the ‘rights’ of parents to have custody of their children. Parents are given chance after chance to get their lives together so that they can be half-way decent parents to their children.
I always wonder, ‘But what about the rights of the children’. Don’t the children deserve to have a half-way decent childhood? They are the true victims. They have not asked for or done anything to deserve the abuses and neglect they are subject to by incompetent, selfish, sadistic and/or just plain mean people who happened to have the ability to have children.
I don’t know any more of the details of this case. Hopefully it’s an isolated incident. I do know that all parents don’t deserve to have their beautiful children helplessly at their mercy.
I hope she got a good tan. Too bad it’ll probably not last the length of her jail sentence.
