Dog the Bounty Hunter is cleared to be extradited to Mexico to face charges of ‘illegal detention’.
Norma Jara, a spokeswoman for the second district court in Guadalajara, said Thursday the court rejected Chapman’s injunction request, ruling there was no reason not to try him on charges he illegally arrested Max Factor makeup heir and convicted rapist Andrew Luster in 2003.
Mexican authorities have already asked for Chapman’s extradition from Hawaii.
Chapman’s lawyers argue he would not be guaranteed a fair trial in Mexico.
The charges against the 53-year-old star of the A&E reality series “Dog the Bounty Hunter” stem from his June 2003 capture of Luster in Puerto Vallarta. Luster had fled to Mexico to avoid trial, and his detention by Chapman led to his return to the U.S. and a 124-year prison term.
Luster’s capture shot the Honolulu-based bounty hunter to fame and led to the TV series.
Chapman, who is now free on $300,000 bail, faces up to four years in a Mexican jail if convicted. But his Mexican lawyer, Jorge Huerta, doubts he would get the maximum. Huerta said illegal detention is a relatively minor crime in Mexico, and that if Chapman is convicted, he would likely only have to pay a fine of several hundred dollars.
So Dog goes to Mexico and picks up one of America’s 10 most wanted and brings him back to the United States. Mexico demands Dog is extradited back to Mexico for ‘illegal detention’ which is considered a relatively minor crime in Mexico.
Dog has already paid $300,000 for bail out of a Mexican jail (not to mention what his brother and son had to pay). He has fought and lost extradition charges and now faces trial and jail time in Mexico. That doesn’t conjure up a pretty picture.
What cha wanna bet the Mexican government decides to go easy on him with just a fine - a 6-figure fine. Even though it will give him more fodder for his show - something we can look forward to watching - it’s still extradition for extortion.
I, for one, appreciate the fact that Dog and his guys took Lester off the streets, whether it’s here or in Mexico.
You go, Dog!!!

The Dog did his job. What bothers me about all this is the fact that the public really has no clue about the circumstances surrounding this story. I search to see if any news sources were covering the story and not many hits came up. “Bald Britney” and “Homophobic basketball players” are what the American media deam news worthy.
I am a proud Canadian supporter of the Chapmans. The Dog has shown mercy to so many and I know that he will be granted mercy in return. The Mexican government should focus their attention on other issues like their own corrupt cops and faulty investigation techniques. In the past few years there have been 3 Canadians “murdered” in Mexico and their families are still fighting to get closure.
The Chapmans are true warriors for what is right and good in this society.

This is a travesty what is being done with the Chapmen (Bounty Hunter Dog) and his family, what in hell is the government doing about this? We spend are tax dollars to free repeated offenders day after day in are court system, we squander billions in construction for other countries needs, but when it comes to are own what is the Bush administration doing to exonerate this man? He did the US a favor by apprehending a fugitive that raped 86 women when are system failed to do. Come on people write to your government, if you stand by and do nothing then you’re as bad as they are, speak out!

I guess we are all going to have to start being criminals because they are the ones that get treated with respect.Dog is the last of the real people who do a good deed, give it all and at the end of the day maybe take home a check. Now a days we’ve got people fighting over dead bodies and babies for a check (and I mean that with all the respect in the world toward those no longer with us)!!! This Dog situation is rediculous! In my opinion Mexico sucks if they don’t see that!! But that’s just my opinion and I believe we as Americans are still (for now) intitled to one.

isnt it interesting how the goverment picks and choses whats important or not. I think the goverment only picks what they can make them money. Iraq= oil. Isnt it about time we stand up against a corrupt goverment. Is it possible to vote in an honest president with some amount of integrity. I dont think so. I dont care who we vote in, it’ll still amount to money. What happened to FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE.. For Gods sake look at the U.N they have gun runners present in the U.N. for when goverments cant afford (not monetairly either) to be involved but yet said goverment still supports the sactions of war. WAR makes money dont kid yourself. Maybe we should refuse to pay taxes. Boston tea party. When are the people of the U.S. gonna stand up and say weve had enough. When is our goverment going to protect all the people, and not the illegal ones who have more rights than a US citizen has. The only solution is a change of consciousness for the whole world. a consciousness that respects all forms of spirituality, A consciousness of peace not war. a consciousness of relaizing were not doing Gods work, ANd to stop using God as an excuse to kill.

This is public relations disaster in the making for the Mexican government; going after Dog when it’s having a tough time reining in criminal gangs down here. I live in Mexico and sadly, the justice system is really lacking. Dog coming down would put that in the spotlight - and expose some hideous shortcomings. Leave the Dog in peace - and sent him a bouquet for getting a slimeball off of the streets.

We spend millions of dollars of our tax money for these free loaders to say in prison, to get an education and to improve there life well they had there chance. What the Dog and his family did was just justice, And if you ask me lusters balls ought to be cut off and fed to the Mexican Government, they should just be happy such a slim ball can’t hurt any of there daughters. But luster will get what is coming to him they like men like him in prison or at least or at least they will when he bends over in the shower let them do to him what he did to all those unforanute for many ladies. Dog you keep doing what you do best! Don’t let it break your spirit or any of the rest of your family’s cause ya’ll know we got your back.

If you are a Dog the Bounty Hunter Fan…then you know how crucial it is for us fans to help fight this extradition.
In 2003 Duane Chapman, AKA Dog the Bounty Hunter,
Leland Chapman and Tim Chapman were arrested in Mexico
for the apprehension of Max Factor Heir Andrew Luster. Andrew Luster fled to Mexico while standing trial for 87 counts of rape. Andrew Luster is now serving a prison sentence of 124 years for 86 counts of rape, in Ventura County, California.
This makes Dog, Leland, and Tim heroes, but the Mexican government says they are criminals due to bounty hunting being illegal in Mexico, although they were in cooperation with local authorities in the apprehension of Luster. Now the 3 men face an extradition back to Mexico to stand trial for capturing an extremely dangerous man, and while transporting Andrew Luster to the Mexican Police Department, Duane, Leland and Tim were stopped and arrested for Deprivation of Liberty, a misdemeanor in Mexico. This misdemeanor has a prison term of 6 months up to 4 years. The US Government should not comply with Mexico on extradition of a misdemeanor.
We need your help. Please sign the petition to keep Dog, Leland and Tim free. http://www.petitiononline.com/dwayne/petition.html
