Sunday Seven

Sunday Seven - Presidential Quotes

President’s Day is set aside to honor the presidents of the United States. Originally the day was set aside to commemorate President George Washington’s birthday. Later, the holiday included President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday (February 12th). Eventually, the holiday was changed from Washington’s birthday to President’s Day.

Since I can’t think of anything particularly interesting that has happened this week, I thought I’d make note of seven random quotes from presidents in honor of President’s Day.

  1. “To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.”, George Washington, Jan. 8, 1790
  2. “The man who can look upon a crisis without being willing to offer himself upon the altar of his country is not for public trust.” Millard Filmore, (1850–1853).
  3. “If it were not for the reporters, I would tell you the truth.” Chester Arthur, (1881–1885)
  4. “Our most dangerous tendency is to expect too much of government, and at the same time do for it too little.” Warren Harding, (1921–1923)
  5. “The only man who makes no mistake is the man who does nothing.” Theodore Roosevelt, (1901–1909)
  6. “I never saw a pessimistic general win a battle.” Dwight Eisenhower, (1953–1961)
  7. “The United States is the best and fairest and most decent nation on the face of the earth.” George H.W. Bush, (1989–1993)
