Thousands followed the Silly Cindy Shenanigans to Washington D.C. to re-enact a ‘Hippies Trying to Relive Their Youth’ march commemorating a march they did in the 1960s. It was basically a bunch of 60 year olds reliving the 1960s. Same thing another day.
From all the news reports one would think that the big news event of the day was that a hand full of old hippies had gathered to march to the Pentagon in remembrance of their power in the 1960s to politically force the United States to surrender to the communist North Vietnamese resulting in the executions of 3 million who had worked with and fought with the Americans to save their own country, the humiliation of the United States and the resulting decades of empowerment for the enemies of the United States.
That is certainly all I heard about on the news. My local news didn’t even MENTION that there was a counter protest by Patriots. The national news mentioned it, sometimes. But I never saw any pictures or hear anything at all about the Patriots.
The media did their best to give a positive spin to the little flower children. I repeatedly heard that they were disappointed in the turn out, but then it was cold, they said. I thought, IT’S COLD??? My son is patrolling the streets of Baghdad in mud, sand, and human excrement with Iranian and al-Qaeda snipers taking pot shots at him and they are so pampered they are worrying about getting too COLD?? What kind of protesters ARE these? They must not believe very strongly in their cause. Then I saw a blurb on St. Patrick’s Day parades. They were very well attended - cold or not. So it wasn’t about the cold.
The media did a lot of close framed shots so the crowd looked bigger than it was. They talked about thousands of people rather than 10s of thousands. They kept showing and interviewing the same handful of people.
What I found particularly interesting, was that the main stream media completely ignored the REAL story about the opposing protests in Washington D.C. on March 17, 2007.
The real story was on the other side of the street. It was the 30,000 American Patriots who came to Washington D.C. to protect the monuments the anti-war protesters were rumored to plan on defiling. In particular the Vietnam Memorial.

The little anti-war people planned on starting their little march at the Vietnam Memorial. Most of us thought they have done enough against the Vietnam Veterans. Enough. The Vietnam Veterans deserve to not have these people, the same people who contributed to the horrors of that war, soil the memorial that stands in honor of the 58,000 who gave their lives in that war. It is sacred ground and the anti-war people should not step foot there. EVER.
There was a cross country caravan. It started on the west coast and worked it’s way across the country. The 30,000 came from all over the country to stand between the protesters and the Vietnam Memorial. The message is crystal clear. They have the right to do their little march, but Patriots have the right to protect the honor and memory of those who died in battle for our country.
And so, there was a DMZ zone in D.C. as seejanemom notes in the photo she took below. The media ignored the 30,000 and focused on the 5,000. That’s sad because those who don’t pay that close attention will never know what 30,000 fellow Americans did for our country. They’ll just hear the paranoid insane ramblings of a very troubled Cindy Sheehan.
What really matters though is that the anti-war protesters did not start their march at the Vietnam Memorial. They decided that wasn’t such a good idea after all. I’m sure their change of plans had nothing to do with the Gathering of Eagles who stood between them and the memorial!!
What really matters is that Americans in fly-over country cared enough to travel long distances, were willing to stand in the cold and protected the memorials from desecration. The media likes to tell the world what most Americans think and feel. Middle Americans stood up on Saturday and told the world that the leftists and the media don’t have a clue how we think and feel.

Ol’ Broad noticed a little media bias herself. She has a great example.
American and Proud has some great pics and first hand account. So does Always on Watch Two and the Gates of Vienna (thanks for the link Ol’ Broad!).
Flopping Aces has a great round-up as usual! He’s got updates from throughout the day. I LOVE the pics!
UPDATE: The Washington Post has an article on the Veterans, military families and others who countered the anti-war protesters. The ‘tolerant left’ protesters called them hooligans. HOOLIGANS!!! ROFL
“Bunch of hooligans in motorcycle jackets!”
7.62mm Justice was there too. I think he was one of those hooligans! HEH!
I’ve shameless taken some photos from Theodore’s World to post here. She has more photos and an article from the Canada Free Press.
When history is written, March 17th, 2007 will at long last eclipse March 17, 1967, as the day when soldiers in faraway Iraq and Afghanistan knew for certain, no matter what real time saw them doing, love and respect await their safe return. The day when it was proven to a watching world that Washington war memorials stand for what they always stood for, time immemorial, the day when the graves of fallen American soldiers the world were warmer.

Gathering Of Eagles, Review…
I don’t care what the MSM says, we kicked ass. According to the National Park Service, we had 30,000, thirty thousand, compared to the a pathetic 5 to 10 thousand that the Anti-War nuts had.
It was a great day to be an American, and a great …
I wish, I sold my cycle last year. It would of been a blast to troll around on the cycle with Jane.
SeeJaneMom kept me in line
great pics of Saturday’s Gathering of the Eagles!
We sent a message to the world, and we will continue to send the message that we support our Troops and the Mission!

The language in this article was the most interesting part for me; you took the word patriot for yur side and gave that other side the name protester or leftist. I think you should define these terms instead of sneaking them into your article as presumptions. So those who are for war are patriots? You really have been braiwashed by Bush and the rest of those linguistic manipulators, and I am sad to see this because it precludes any intelligent discussion, any serious examination of issues, instgead you are using “silly” words like patriot and eagles gathering to mean blind followers and the ignorant. I am sure this comment will never make it to “post” status because you would then have to explain to me how you can steal a word like patriot and stuff it full of ignorance.
The media ignored the Gathering of Eagles because it was a non-event. It was pathetic, and it was irrelevant to anyone except those alleged 30K (does Bull-shit mean anything to anyone?) who were motivated enough by their hatred of democracy to travel to DC to whine.
I am just as patrotic as anyone else, hell I served over 20 yrs, but the GoE organizers piss me off because they are frauds. Besides the lies the GoE push (like their non-partisan claim) they are an enormous dishonor to all veterans because they are attempting to use the vets to acheive political ambitions. No self-respecting vet would get near the GoE.
