Blue Star Turns Gold

Please go by Bloggin’ Outloud and leave a message for this young man’s parents ….

Please be in prayer for some good friends of ours - they just lost a son to a roadside bomb in Iraq yesterday morning. If you would be so kind as to write a note at Bloggin’ Outloud, I’ll have them read your words of encouragement and support.

“Alex” was 21 years old, joined the US Army in 2004 right out of high school, served in Korea and went on his tour to the Middle East last fall.

Robinik writes a beautiful sentiment for our Soldiers in response to this tragic loss. He offers A Little Prayer for a Big Man.

Bagpipes Cryin’

Bagpipes Cryin’
Rushlow Harris

Stumbled across an old green box
in my granddaddy’s house
Inside was a cross
some old dog tags
and a picture of when he was shipping out.
So I showed it to him
said “tell me about those days”
When he looked inside
he closed his eyes all he could say was:

“I hear bagpipes cryin’ Amazing Grace
Omaha Beach and her crashing waves.
Old Glory draped like Heaven’s mercy
over the fallen sons.
I see all the heroes
who were willing to fight in the name of freedom
layin’ down their lives.
And prayin’ God’s grace
would keep us safe from harm
until they brought us boys back home.”

Those words to a boy that became a man
now I’m ankle deep in this Persian sand.
And every day I’m giving all I can
because I’m damn proud to be American
Yeah, I made some friends
and I’ve lost some too
When I think about what they gave for me and you

I hear bagpipes cryin’ Amazing Grace
tears rolling down a mother’s face.
Old Glory draped like Heaven’s mercy
over the fallen sons.
I see all the heroes who are willing to fight
in the name of freedom layin’ down their lives.
And prayin’ God’s grace
would keep us safe from harm
until they bring us boys back home

I hear bagpipes cryin’ Amazing Grace,
tears rolling down a mother’s face.
Old Glory draped like Heaven’s mercy
over the fallen sons.
I see all the heroes
who are willing to fight in the name of freedom
layin’ down their lives.
And prayin’ God’s grace would keep you safe from harm,
until they bring you boys back home
’till they bring you boys back home
till they bring you boys back home.

What’s Everybody Talking About

Taking a look at what’s going on from my blogroll ….

William TeachOne of my favorite bloggers, William Teach of The Pirate’s Cove, goes back to his roots and remembers why he started blogging to begin with. He then has his say about the ‘redeployment’ (new word for surrender) crowd. He wonders if they will take ownership of the consequences of a United States defeat in Iraq.

The Thirteeners Carnival is up ……

FrauBudgie at Red Hot Cuppa Politics is applauding Steven Hawkins for having his day of freedom from the restraints of his crippled body. He had a break, if just for a day.

Semper Fi Mom at Lubbock Marine Parents has been posting a lot of music lately. Today she is singing Charlie Daniel’s praises. He is a real patriot! I wish there were more entertainers who cared about our Troops.

America is NOT at War

The argument regarding funding for the war on Capital Hill is frustrating for those of us with children serving in the bowels of Baghdad. We have Congressmen ranting and raving and carrying on about the ‘illegal’ war and about forcing troop withdrawal by cutting funds.

I believe this is exactly what the same people did to our Vietnam Veterans. They are the same people doing the same thing. They declare that the war is like the Vietnam War but I suggest that it’s not the war that is the same but the baby-boom generation reaction to it that is the same.

Nancy Pelosi declares that it’s sad that President Bush thinks that al-Qaeda is in Iraq. Even while she makes these sneering statements our Soldiers, our sons and our daughters, are fighting al-Qaeda in Iraq. High level Iranian operatives have been captured in Iraq and the Congressmen and news media either ignore it or spend their time discussing whether or not our Troops, our sons and our daughters, will mistreat them while they are being held for questioning.

The Troops, our sons and our daughters, are having their time down range extended. In many cases indefinitely. They are having to do repeated rotations. It’s a volunteer Army, that’s their job. But doesn’t it just grate on you to hear the criticism of every move they make? Doesn’t it just make your head explode to know that news media and progressives are just waiting for one to slip up, in the fog of war, and make a mistake so they can slander the American Military for the world to hear? Don’t you want to scream at those Congressmen and tell them to quit using our sons and our daughters for their own political gain?

Our Soldiers are conducting themselves with the utmost professionalism. They are working under rules of engagement that would be comical if they weren’t so deadly. Not deadly to the enemy, but deadly for our Soldiers. For our sons and daughters.

During my daily routine, I look around and see military age people going about their lives. There is no war in their lives. They are going to school, working, climbing the corporate ladder, marrying, having children and planning vacations to exotic places.

Our Soldiers are in an exotic place alright, but it’s no vacation. Their lives are not just on hold, but are hanging in the balance. Their marriages, children, jobs, school are all on hold. Waiting. They will return to their lives when their rotations, which are being extended, are over. Then they’ll go back again. They are seeing sights that will remain with them the rest of their lives. None of them will come back the same.

There is a disconnect between the people in this country and our Soldiers fighting this war. We have little to no real help from other countries. Our Soldiers are in the dangerous areas. Our Soldiers are carrying the heaviest part of the load for the Western world.

Our country forgot about 9/11. Everyone has moved on. Everyone except our enemy who still declares their intention to destroy us, and the American Soldier who stands alone between them and us.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are Breaking Up or Getting Married

Angelina Jolie and Brad PittBrad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are either breaking up or getting married. One or the other.

Rumors started making the rounds that they were breaking up when Angelia showed up single for her latest adoption. Apparently, this was necessary to finalize her adoption of 3-year-old Pax in Vietnam. They don’t allow unwed couples to adopt a child.

But since the adoption, she has filed papers to have Pax’s last name changed to Jolie-Pitt so that all the children have the same last name. So now there are rumors of marriage …. again.

Apparently, all is well in the Jolie-Pitt household (households - plural). Tune in tomorrow for the next rumor.

Los Angeles (E! Online) - So much for the splitsville stories.

Further cementing her happily coupled status,
Angelina Jolie has filed a petition to officially change her newly adopted son’s last name to Jolie-Pitt, giving him the same surname as Maddox, Zahara and Shiloh.

Jolie filed the papers Apr. 16 in Santa Monica Superior Court. (View the court documents.)

When all is signed and stamped, the three-year-old’s name will be Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt. Jolie welcomed him to the fold last month, signing up as a single mom because the child’s native Vietnam does not allow unwedded couples to adopt.

But while she presented herself as a singleton for legal purposes, the move also fueled rumors of possible trouble in Brangelina land.

Then again, what move of theirs doesn’t? They’re either breaking up or getting married.

Instead,
Brad Pitt is expected to take action to adopt Pax, and he obviously has no qualms about sharing his name. Maddox and Zahara became Jolie-Pitts in January 2006 and Shiloh has been one since her birth May 27.

Jolie said in the months following Shiloh’s arrival that, while more biological additions remained a possibility for her and Pitt, they would be more likely to adopt before going the pregnancy route again. In March, she denied tabloid reports that had her and Pitt tying the knot in the Dominican Republic over the Easter holiday weekend.

The philanthropic couple have been splitting their time among Los Angeles, a new home in New Orleans, film sets and, of course, various goodwill destinations. Before traveling to Vietnam, Jolie visited Chad to meet with Sudanese refugees and subsequently ended up cutting a $100,000 check to build a new medical clinic in the war-torn nation.

Then, despite saying she wanted to take a few months off to be a stay-at-home mom to Pax and the rest of her brood, the Oscar winner signed up to star in the big-screen adaptation of Mark Millar’s graphic novel Wanted. Filming was set to begin late this month.

Next up, the fruit of Pitt and Jolie’s recent creative labors, the Daniel Pearl biopic A Mighty Heart, which Jolie starred in and Pitt produced, will have its premiere May 16 at the
Cannes Film Festival, where it will screen out of competition.

Egyptian Blogger Quits

Sandmonkey is quitting blogging.

One of the chief reasons is the fact that there has been too much heat around me lately. I no longer believe that my anonymity is kept, especially with State Secuirty agents lurking around my street and asking questions about me since that day. I ignore that, the same way I ignored all the clicking noises that my phones started to exhibit all of a sudden, or the law suit filed by Judge Mourad on my friends, and instead grew bolder and more reckless at a time where everybody else started being more cautious. It took me a while to take note of the fear that has been gripping our little blogsphere and comprehend what it really means. The prospects for improvment, to put it slightly, look pretty grim. I was the model of caution, and believing in my invincipility by managing not to get arrested for the past 2 and a half years, I’ve grown reckless. Stupid Monkey. Stupid!

He apologizes and thanks his readers ….

You gave a damn about a bunch of egyptians who had a dream to be free and stood by us in our houres of need. For that you are my heroes, and I can not possibly thank you enough.

I believe this is what happens when the world’s only superpower, the United States, appears weak to the world. Our enemies are emboldened and our friends are afraid. Some Americans throw around words like fascism and nazis to describe the United States government. They are ignorant and do not understand the dangerous world in which we live.

None of them have been prosecuted for speaking out on international television against our government, much less for keeping a quiet blog speaking out for the desire for freedom.

I’ve read Sandmonkey’s blog since I first started blogging. This makes me incredibly sad. Good luck Sandmonkey. Keep your head low and stay safe.

Egyptian bloggers arrested …..
Egypt blogger jailed for ‘insult’

An Egyptian court has sentenced a blogger to four years’ prison for insulting Islam and the president.

Abdel Kareem Soliman’s trial was the first time that a blogger had been prosecuted in Egypt.

He had used his web log to criticise the country’s top Islamic institution, al-Azhar university and President Hosni Mubarak, whom he called a dictator.

Egypt releases blogger jailed for 45 days after ‘insulting’ President

Egyptian authorities have ordered the release of an award-winning blogger and activist, imprisoned 45 days ago on charges including insulting the President.

Alaa Seif al-Islam, 24, who was arrested at a pro-reform demonstration on 7 May, had drawn the ire of the authorities for his provocative weblog and taking part in banned street protests. He is expected to be released from the Tora prison in Cairo today.

The release comes after a turbulent period of protest and violence in Egypt. Practically all groups opposed to President Hosni Mubarak, including the Muslim Brotherhood and secular groups such as Kifaya! (Enough!) and Youth for Change have had members beaten. Hundreds have been arrested.

Alaa’s wife, Manal, with whom he runs the website Manalaa.net, which won an award from the media freedom group Reporters Without Borders, said after the decision: “There’s no going back now, we’ll definitely be continuing our activities.”

Jon Voight Speaks Out About the War on O’Reilly

Jon Voight

Do you think it’s possible to win the Iraq War?

Here’s what I think: this is a real war, extended beyond the borders of Iraq.

As in the more general war on terror?

The war on terror is real. People would have you believe it’s not real. This is not Vietnam. This particular situation is not the same wherein we can walk away and just leave destruction behind us. No, we can’t. Anyone who has paid attention to what [Iranian President] Ahmadinejad is saying, what all the mullahs are saying in this country and in England, and in all of the Arab world, this is serious, they’re calling for the destruction of America and all democracy and thats what’s going on. We could lose this war.

It’s so unusual for a hollywood personality to speak out in support of America that it’s noteworthy. Jon Voight makes a lot of sense in this interview. He is a man who starred in anti-war films as a young man. He seems to have gotten wiser as he’s gotten older, which happens to many of us. The idealism of our youths get replaced by a more realistic understanding of the world we live in.

Cao has the video.

PETA still has it out for Kentucky Fried Chicken. They have a sign generating site they are promoting. The signs are designed to underscore the cruelty of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Frankly, I think Kentucky Fried Chicken is finger-lickin’ good. So I generated my own sign. Go on over and do one yourself. It’s fun. Hopefully you can come up with something more clever than mine.

It’s a two-fer - have fun and drive PETA nuts at the same time ….

An Opinion Regarding American Idol

American Idol

I just loved this graphic so I had to lift it and post it. The graphic is courtesy of Agent Bedhead who is guest posting at My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

The Superbowl The Oscars American Idol has been on for what seems like HOURS. Every star you ever heard of (practically) are on there tonight. Some are on for a second, some for a few minutes. Bono to Gwenyth Palthrow. The one that I was shocked to see was ELVIS. YES! Elvis was on American Idol tonight. That was quite a coup!

Bombshell Cripples Case Against Haditha Marines

From NewsMax

Philip V. Brennan
Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Convincing evidence that corroborates NewsMax.com’s accounts of the Haditha insurgent ambush has compelled the prosecution to take extraordinary steps to bolster their crumbling case.

The stunning announcement that all charges are being dropped against Sgt. Sanick P. Dela Cruz, formerly accused of murder in the Haditha incident where 24 Iraqis were killed during an insurgent ambush against the Marines, is indication that the prosecutors have a very weak case against all the defendants, lawyers for the some of the accused say.

Crumbling Case

“Dela Cruz provided several sworn statements to the government,” Mark Zaid said. Zaid is one of the attorneys representing defendant Sgt. Frank Wuterich adding that as part of its obligations the government turned over statements to Wuterich’s defense team.

“Unless there’s something new that he is suddenly going to come forward with, it’s not entirely clear that it’s damaging to my client at all,” Mark Zaid, one of the attorney’s representing Sgt. defendant Frank Wuterich, told NewsMax.com.

“Those statements were available for the government to use, and we found that there are numerous conflicting statements within his own statements.”

The announcement of the deal with Dela Cruz is further evidence that the cases against the Kilo Company Marines and several of their superior officers are in deep trouble. It comes on the heels of postponements of Article 32 hearings slated for Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani, the battalion commander and two of the enlisted men charged with murdering civilians in Haditha on Nov. 19, 2005.

Baseless Charges

Although the prosecutors said they needed more time to prepare their cases, there is much more to the story than that NewsMax.com has learned, and it paints a shocking picture of a prosecution that should never have been pursued.

In a nutshell, the case exploded when an intelligence officer dropped a bombshell on prosecutors during a pre-hearing interview when he revealed the existence of exculpatory evidence that appears to have been obtained by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and withheld from the prosecutors.

This officer, described by senior Marine Corps superiors as one of the best and most dedicated intelligence officers in the entire Marine Corps, was in possession of evidence which provided a minute-by-minute narrative of the entire day’s action — material which he had amassed while monitoring the day’s action in his capacity as the battalion’s intelligence officer. That material, he says, was also in the hands of the NCIS.

Much of that evidence remains classified, but it includes videos of the entire day’s action, including airstrikes against insurgent safe houses. Also included was all of the radio traffic describing the ongoing action between the men on the ground and battalion headquarters, and proof that the Marines were aware that the insurgents conducting the ambush of the Kilo Company troops were videotaping the action — the same video that after editing ended up in the hands of a gullible anti-war correspondent for Time magazine.

When asked by the prosecution team to give his copies of the evidence to the prosecution, he told NewsMax.com that he was reluctant to do so, fearing it would again be suppressed or misused, but later relented when ordered by his commanding general to do so.

Confronted by the massive mounds of evidence that Marine Corps sources tell NewsMax proves conclusively that the cases against the Haditha Marines are baseless, the prosecutors were forced to postpone the Article 31 against Lt. Col. Chessani and two of the enlisted men in an attempt to regroup.

By granting immunity to the officer on the scene of the house-clearing effort, the prosecution, lawyers say, has further weakened its case.

Because the intelligence officer was slated to return to Iraq for another tour of duty, arrangements were made prior to his departure to videotape his testimony for use in the hearings which would take place after his departure.

Those familiar with his testimony, which included masses of classified material, insist that the narratives of the day’s events disclosed by NewsMax.com in a long series of stories about Haditha were accurate presentations of the true facts and a total repudiation of all the slanderous material leaked by the Pentagon to the media.

Thanks to this officer’s testimony, the defense team was able to present over one hundred classified exhibits, including video.

Lawyers for some of the accused told NewsMax that the officer’s eight hour-long deposition will be made available to the defense in all the cases for use at the various Article 32 hearings which begin with Lt. Col. Chessani in May. Because most of it remains classified, it will be reviewed in private by the hearing officers and not revealed in the open hearings.

NewsMax, however, can reveal that the facts of what happened early that November morning clearly show that the incident was part of a planned ambush by insurgent forces, that the civilians tragically killed in the were used as human shields by the insurgents, and that despite claims by Rep. John Murtha, there was indeed an ongoing firefight between the Marines and the enemy.

In short, what the intelligence officer provided, was a fully backed up account that puts the listener at the scene of the action and takes him though the entire day’s action. All of this information was made available to senior officers up the command ladder including the Battalion commander Lt. Col. Chessani.

It was so complete it eliminated any need for further investigation.

Robert Muise, the Thomas More Law Center attorney who questioned the officer, told NewsMax in a statement, “The intelligence officer is a crucial witness in this case. During his testimony, he effectively described the enemy situation prior to, during, and after the November 19 terrorist attack, providing the necessary context for the decisions that were made as a result. His testimony shows the complexity of the attack this day, the callousness of the terrorists toward the local civilians, whom they use to their advantage, and the error of viewing this incident in a vacuum.

“The officer also showed how the insurgents used allegations of wrongdoing by Marines as propaganda to support their cause. In fact, another witness, who was the assistant intelligence officer during the attack and is now the current intelligence officer for the battalion, testified that since the Haditha incident received so much negative attention, terrorist propaganda alleging law of war violations against American servicemen in Iraq has ‘ballooned.’”

Addressing this point, Richard Thompson, the president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Law Center said, “The government’s politicized quest to find wrongdoing in this case will ultimately harm the war effort, and it has already resulted in an incredible expenditure of time, money, and scarce resources, which could be better used fighting the terrorists.

“Our job is to allow the facts of November 19, 2005 and beyond to be presented to the investigating officer rather than the scurrilous and unfounded accusations from anti-war politicians and media who rely on insurgent sources for their stories about our decent and hard fighting men in uniform.”

In the past few days, as an apparent part of the prosecution’s damage control effort, some Pentagon officials leaked the once classified 130-page report, by Maj. Gen. Eldon A. Bargewell of the Army, to the New York Times and The Washington Post. That report, however, failed to conclude that any officers covered up evidence or committed a crime — the basis of the charges against Lt. Col. Chessani and the other officers charged.

In previous attempt to stir up animosity to the defendants, some people in the Pentagon leaked information allegedly compiled by the NCIS to the Washington Post.

As NewsMax demonstrated, that information was false.

Biased Media Weighs In

A shocking example of the sort of slanderous material being leaked to the media was this story broadcast by WKRN in Nashville, Tenn., which reported that military prosecutors said marines went on “a killing rampage in November 2005 in Haditha, Iraq, after their Humvee was destroyed by a roadside bomb killing one marine and injuring two others.”

According to the WKRN report, “The surviving marines went on a killing spree shooting two dozen Iraqi civilians including unarmed men in the street and men, women, and children in their homes.”

They went on to quote one Gen. Jack Keane, rescribed as an ABC News consultant, who said that “at that point, there was a fundamental . . . breakdown in the chain of command. They became more like a gang than a military unit. The order and the discipline fundamentally broke down and they were seeking revenge.”

The Pentagon report, WKRN admitted, “did not find specific evidence of a cover-up but concludes that nobody was interested in investigating the allegations.”

The facts show that these reports are blatantly false, and typical of the shamefully distorted media coverage of the Haditha killings.

On April 3, the prosecution granted immunity to talk to prosecutors to Lt. Max Frank, who arrived at the scene after the IED blast of the explosion. The grant was made as part of an order to “cooperate and truthfully answer all questions posed by investigators.”

He has not been charged in the case.

According to Muise and Brian Rooney of the Thomas Moore Law Center both former Marine officers now representing Lt. Col. Chessani, Frank, who personally witnessed the scene of the attack shortly after the fighting and assisted with removing the civilian bodies from the insurgent-occupied homes, insisted that there was no evidence of “executions” and that he saw no evidence of misconduct.

Muise observed that Frank was testifying under a grant of immunity by the government, which he said added further credibility to his testimony.

Lt. Col. Shelburne, the military defense counsel for Chessani who questioned Kallop, noted, “This officer’s testimony is significant. He was on the scene shortly after the attack. He saw the location of the bodies. He personally observed the damage caused by the attack. And yet, he saw nothing that caused him to suspect any wrongdoing on the part of the Marines. Moreover, this officer was given immunity by the government, so the only way he can get in trouble is if he testifies untruthfully.”

I hope we see this in the MSM. Maybe at least HALF as much as we saw it in the news when Pennsylvania Congressman John Murtha made these hideous allegations against our Marines. When he chose the side of the jihadists against our own Marines.

These men have been slandered in the press and slandered in the halls of Congress for the benefit of political careers. Many have used these allegations for their own agendas and all this time these Marines have been held in prison while John Murtha was reelected to Congress and has continued to benefit from the power of his office.

Murtha and the media may want to forget about the Haditha Marines, but if we let them than we are just as guilty as they are of working against our Troops and against this country!

A man who is good enough to shed his blood for his Country
is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards.
