RALEIGH –Elizabeth Edwards says she is scared of the “rabid, rabid Republican” who owns property across the street from her Orange County home — and she doesn’t want her kids going near the gun-toting neighbor.
Edwards, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, particularly recalls the time neighbor Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way near his property. The Edwards family has yet to meet Johnson in person.
“I wouldn’t be nice to him, anyway,” Edwards said in an interview. “I don’t want my kids anywhere near some guy who, when he doesn’t like somebody, the first thing he does is pull a gun out. It scares the business out of me.”
But Johnson defended the occasion he brandished a gun, saying those on his land didn’t have the proper approval.
“I use the gun for protection, and I considered that an appropriate time,” Johnson said. “Sometimes you have to take drastic measures.”
Edwards views Johnson as a “rabid, rabid Republican” who refuses to clean up his “slummy” property just to spite her family, whose lavish 28,000-square-foot estate is nearby on 102 wooded acres.
Johnson, 55, acknowledges his Republican roots. But he takes offense to the suggestion he has purposefully left his property, including an old garage he leases for use as a car shop, in dilapidated condition.
Johnson said he has lived his entire life on the property, which he said his family purchased before the Great Depression. He said he’s spent a lot of money to try and fix up the 42-acre tract.
“I have to budget. I have to live within my means,” Johnson said. “I don’t have millions of dollars to fix the place.”
Johnson, who has posted a “Go Rudy Giuliani 2008″ sign on a fence just 100 feet from the entrance to the Edwards’ driveway, has criticized Edwards for the scale of their nearby home. The property and home, which includes an indoor basketball court, an indoor handball court and an indoor pool, is valued at $5.3 million.
The Edwardses are still putting the final touches on the property, which they purchased in 2003.
“I thought he was supposed to be for the poor people,” Johnson said. “But does he ever socialize with any poor people? He doesn’t speak to me.”
Johnson said he has put his property on the market, in part blaming the high property taxes for his decision to leave. He also wants to move for another reason.
“I don’t want to live somewhere where someone’s always complaining about me,” he said.
This is almost unbelievable. The Edwardses move in and increase property taxes in the area with their 6 million dollar 29,000 square foot home on over 100 acres and then complain about their neighbors political affiliations. They have their bulldozers, builders and whatever else over there working since 2003 to build this mansion and then complain that their neighbors aren’t too happy about it.
They inconvenience everyone in the area to build their mansion and then complain about them incessantly on national news so that the neighbors are forced to leave property that has been in their families for generations.
What cha wanna bet the Edwardses buy this guys property as soon as they can get him run out of town.
With all that national attention on the poor guy it’s a wonder he doesn’t have the gun out more. If HE were an ambulance chaser attorney like Edwards he’d have sued them by now for slander and defamation of character.
So much for the Edwardses having a clue about what working people having to deal with to get by in life.
But then, they have ’slummy’ neighbors who aren’t in their class. This neighbor has a garage on his property that people WORK IN!!! And as you know, garage work is messy and nasty, so why would they be nice to them.
To top it all off, when the Edwardses had workers on this guys property, UNANNOUNCED, he took his gun and went out to see what was going on. That didn’t have anything to do with who he liked or didn’t like, it had to do with feeling threatened on his own property. A good neighbor would have let the neighbors know they were going to have surveyors out and apologize for the inconvenience, not bad mouth their neighbors to every media outlet they can find for being a little put out at the Edwardses UNNEIGHBORLINESS.
I wonder if Elizabeth Edwards lets her children around their body guards? I bet she does and I bet those body guards have guns.
Take a look at the Edwardses home.
tiara tip: Yeah, Right, Whatever
Ol’ Broad says this is a real class act.

It is amazing to me that a woman like Mrs. Edwards can make such comments about someone with whom they apparently are not on speaking terms with and may not even know.
It sounds like they live on opposites of the spectrum, and their properties border one another. Unfortunately it’s not unnatural for someone of wealth to speak negatively about someone that is not wealthy and perhaps looks it too…
A man running for Commander and Chief of the most powerful nation on earth, should know better, and that goes for his family!

BSC: This is the same woman who said her 29,000 square foot house wasn’t pretentious! They are snobs, pure and simple.

Are You Able To Recognize Beauty?…
Leisure
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs

Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in bro…
