I would never discourage anyone from stepping out into their own business, but having helped my husband with his, I’ll just say you still report to other people–all your customers. Your time is never again your own, the hours are longer, there are no benefits, hidden or other wise. The tax rules are impossible and punishing. And make sure someone has the health insurance, because buying it as a sole proprietor is pretty nasty.

Making money on the blog or Internet sounds great. I’ve thought about it, but have to watch what I do, considering we are retired and I’m not at the age I can make any amount - give me a year or so. But, I might check out the writing assignments. Sounds good to me.

Another good reason: just as people who work from home should establish a way to keep work separate from the rest of their life, you should maintain a blog that’s your personal space to be creative…and just that. If you want to start another blog with the intent to make money from your writing, sure, fine, go for it. But just like in real life…keep your “work” and your “you” spaces separate. Don’t allow work to slowly take over everything that’s yours.

As you start your new venture, you may want to keep that in mind. (It also makes your money-making blog look that much more professional…which may attract more traffic targeted to that niche…which may earn you better-paying gigs.)

BSC: LOL - nobody said you can’t! lol There are other ways to generate income besides advertising. A lot of publications pay for articles. Clicking on ads doesn’t really generate that much income anyway.
