Army Ranger Named One of ‘Time’ Magazine’s Most Influential People

May 17, 2007“Time” magazine put Capt. Timothy Gittins on its annual list of the world’s most influential people this month. Capt. Gittins also received the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award in a Pentagon ceremony May 16. Currently commanding the 101st Airborne Division’s Company C, 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, Capt. Gittins will report next month to Fort Benning, Ga., where he’ll instruct budding leaders in the Captains Career Course.
WASHINGTON (Army News Service, May 18, 2007) - Among the ranks of Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt, the Pope and even Osama bin Laden stands Army ranger and combat veteran Capt. Timothy Gittins.
“Time” magazine has put Capt. Gittins on its annual list of the world’s most influential people this month. Appearing in the May 14 issue, Capt. Gittins is described as “an apt symbol of the heroism that the U.S.’s pair of lengthening wars have demanded of the roughly 1 million men and women who have fought them.”
Joined on the list by only one other military member - Gen. David Petraeus, commander of multinational forces in Iraq - the 31-year-old said he feels much like any other Soldier.
But his leaders have also voted him into the elite General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award alumni. The program recognizes company-grade officers who demonstrate Gen. MacArthur’s favored ideals of duty, honor and country.
The article goes on to describe Captain Gittins’ qualities that lead to his successes on the battlefield as well as in his military career.
The one thing that bothers me about this is that the article makes it sound as though he is in the company of outstanding people by listing him with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Rosie O’Donnell and Brad Pitt. They are entertainers, Captain Gittins is a warrior. The entertainers should be impressed that they are in his company instead of the other way around.
There is no greater honor than to lead men on the field of battle.

Who Profits Most On Gas?…
IÂ’ll give you a hint – not the oil companies. While oil companies make about 13 cents on a gallon of gasoline, the federal government makes 18.4 cents (the federal tax) and California’s various governments make 40.2 cents (the nation’s……

I guess I don’t see the crime here — much less how it rises to the level of a “hate crime”. Two 16-year-old Crystal Lake girls were expected in juvenile court Tuesday on hate-crime charges for allegedly printing and distributing……

Imagine a Presidential Candidate who will tell you the truth, not in some fake polished attempt at “Straight Talk” but the honest, politically incorrect truth. He’d be no jerk, but he’d pick no bones about it. Imagine a candidate who tells you:
