Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is rattling his saber again. He’s been quiet for a while and since he’s been having some problems with his own people, I had been kind of hoping that maybe his power was diminished. I guess it was too much to hope that he’d just disappear.
As it is with the megalomaniacs our world has had to deal with in the past, he won’t go away easily.
He has been telling the world all along that he will destroy Israel. He has been actively building nuclear weapons. He has thumbed his nose at the international community. He has worked at building alliances with other enemies of the Western world, Chavez and Kim Jong-Il specifically. He has provided safe haven for terrorists. He has provided a seemingly endless supply of terrorists and sophisticated weapons to fight our forces in Afghanistan and Iraq. He believes he is called to create havoc in the world to bring about the return of the 12th Iman.
He and his allies get bolder in their rhetoric and actions every day. They have no respect for our military power. They no longer fear us.
Today he announces to the world that the end of Israel is near. He says the button has been pushed and the process towards it’s destruction has begun.
Ahmadinejad said last summer’s war between Israel and Hezbollah showed for the first time that the “hegemony of the occupier regime [Israel] had collapsed, and the Lebanese nation pushed the button to begin counting the days until the destruction of the Zionist regime,” IRNA quoted him as saying.
“God willing, in the near future we will witness the destruction of the corrupt occupier regime,” Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying during a speech to foreign guests who attended ceremonies marking the 18th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who is known as the father of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Ahmadinejad tells the world repeatedly what his intentions are and it’s only mentioned briefly on the news. It’s not the first time in history that the West has ignored the threats of a tyrant. Millions died while our society ignored the danger of Hitler and he was ignored until he could no longer be ignored.
The day will come when we can no longer ignore Ahmadinejad.
