Paris Hilton made a surprise appearance at the MTV Awards last night, glamorous as ever. She put on a brave face and gave an interview about her upcoming incarceration.
‘I did have a choice to go to a pay jail,’Â Hilton said.
‘But I declined because I feel like the media portrays me in a way that I’m not and that’s why I wanted to go to county, to show that I can do it and I’m going to be treated like everyone else.
‘I’m going to do the time - I’m going to do it the right way.
‘I hope that this can be an example to other young people in the decisions they make and use it as something positive.’Â
Apparently, the appearance at the MTV Awards was a red herring to throw reporters off her scent so she could turn herself in without the highly publicize perp walk the reporters were preparing for.
Instead, she left for jail shortly after her appearance at the awards ceremony.
Paris Hilton turned herself in to in at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles just after 10:30 p.m., then was escorted to the all women’s facility in Lynwood, where she was booked, fingerprinted, photographed, medically screened and issued an orange top and pants, Whitmore said.
Elliot Mintz, Hilton’s publicist, reported that he spoke with Kathy Hilton after she returned from delivering Paris to jail.
“She told me it was very emotional,” Mintz said. “She also said that she feels this will be a time when Paris will be able to think and reflect and to spend time alone to learn from the experience because in Paris’ life she’s never alone, there’s always a constant chatter around her.”
I don’t know about that. I hear that jail in under a freeway and beside a railroad track. I imagine it’s not very quiet there.
I do have to say that Paris seems to be handling this with some dignity so far. Not what one would have expected for her oh-so-public exploits so far. But good for her all the same.
I have never thought that Paris is nearly as dumb as she pretends she is. She certainly is a master of marketing herself and increasing her fortune. If she’s smart, she’ll use this time exactly as she says for self reflection and personal growth. Who knows. She’s got potential. But as my Beloved Curmudgeon says, potential just means you haven’t done anything yet.
