Soldier Son
I cannot move
I cannot speak
I cannot waiver
Say I’m weak

I live in fear
All day, all night
For our troops
And it ain’t right

Someone I love
Is “over there”
My heart is breaking
Soul laid bare

I want to cry
and scream out loud
We are united
Please stand proud

Yet my voice,
no longer heard
Those that mock
Silence my word

That we are free
Because of wars
Fought at home
And foreign shores

The casualties ran
high today
I cannot think
I cannot pray

I sit and write a poem
or two
in hopes that it
Will get to you

To let you know
The sense of pride
I feel for you
And those who died

I want you home
Your head held high
Unashamed
Not asking “why”

So do your job and
I’ll do mine
Lie to all
And say I’m fine
