Madeleine McCann has turned four-years-old since her abduction from her hotel room in Portugal on May 3rd. Her parents have launched a worldwide media campaign in an attempt to find their missing daughter.
Yesterday the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf received an anonymous letter that gave directions to the location of Madeleine’s body. The letter claimed her body would be found buried and hidden under rocks very near the location from which she was abducted.
Another tip came into the same paper that a man was seen carrying a young child wrapped in towels. Two Dutch reporters found a towel in the area the letter stated Madeleine’s body would be found.
The Portuguese police are taking these tips very seriously. They are interviewing the Dutch reporters and searching the area identified in the letter as the location of Madeleine’s body.
Meanwhile, Madeleine’s parents continue to believe that she is alive and are searching throughout Europe for her. They were very upset over the press received by this most recent lead.

Writing his blog on the Find Madeleine website, he said they were “extremely disappointed” that the details had been released.
“Although all information will be taken seriously, we were very upset that the credibility of this letter had not been examined and, more importantly, published before the Portuguese police had an opportunity to investigate the claim, and search the area if appropriate without massive media attention.
“We feel strongly that this was an irresponsible piece of journalism and even if it were true is insensitive and cruel.”
He went on: “One can imagine how upsetting it is for Kate and I to hear of such claims.”
