Michael Vick is hiding out in Virginia and expressing concern for what his current scandal is doing to his mother. He’s also asking for the prayers of his fans to get him through this situation in his life. OHHH PLEEEZZZEEEE.
He’s been given a venue to express his ’sincere’ appreciation of his fans and his concern about how this is affecting his mother. Porsche Foxx interviews Michael Vick giving him the opportunity to address his fans.
Vick bought the property on which the dog fights were conducted and named the property ‘Bad Newz Kennels’. What exactly does he claim to think was going on at his property? If he didn’t know, he should have known and I’m having a hard time buying that he didn’t know. Even his cohorts are implicating him. saying Vick funded the entire enterprise.
I think what bothers me most about this whole episode is the double standard that is glaringly evident but no one dares speak of.
All sorts of journalists, reporters, news readers, bloggers, radio and television personalities are screaming foul and saying they ‘hurt for Vick’. They are claiming there is a double standard in that he is losing his endorsements faster than he can electrocute one of his dogs.
These people are right, there is a double standard, but not in the way they are implying. They are trying to make this a racial issue and that is just ABSURD! The very people who are calling for Vick to be given a his day in court and not rush to judge him are the same people who jumped on the bandwagon of ruining the lives of the Duke lacrosse players (with NO evidence - in fact, there was evidence they DIDN’T do what they were accused of) and to hang Imus out to dry because he did what he does on the radio. They weren’t concerned about prejudging then?
If they were equal opportunity protesters it would be one thing - but they aren’t. I won’t make a sweeping judgment that they are racists because there are probably a few in the handful of people protesting on his behalf who aren’t racists- but if I had gone out and protested on behalf of the Duke lacrosse players I’d have been called a racist in a nanosecond.
That is where the double standard lies.
I hear all sorts of people coming to his defense, his coaches, people who have known him over the years. The problem is, he can run fast and carry a football. I’d be willing to bet he’s been given a pass on bad behavior since middle school. We all know it’s true. We see it in the schools and especially once someone is good enough to play in the big leagues. He’s been given a pass in the past for drug possession. Now it looks like he’s gotten himself in a mess he can’t get out of.
Don’t worry, Michael Vick will get his day in court. People can be outraged at his spoiled, multi-millionaire behavior, the same way we are outraged by other spoiled celebrities who get everything they want and expect to not have to live by the same rules the rest of us live by.
As much as people want to make it a race issue, it isn’t a race issue. It may be an issue of bad behavior that comes with too much privilege and too little responsibility. But it’s not a racial issue.
And just watch … I’ll be called a racist for even daring to expect Vick and those who want him to go free simply because he can run with a football to be held to account for their behavior … oh … and we know there are other reasons, but you can’t say that.
Frankly, it’s not FAIR to not hold people responsible for their behaviors. Do these protesters think so little of Vick that they think he is incapable of living in a civilized manner? Do they not expect any more from him than that he act inhumane? If you don’t expect any better than that from him, he won’t give you any better. If you think anything of him at all as a person, you will expect the best of him. Having such low expectations is a recipe for failure.
We can not have a civilized society when entire segments of the society (celebrities, athletes) are not held to account for their behavior and actions. Michael Vick needs to go to court and if he is guilty he needs to pay for his crimes. The same is true for all of us. It’s just that simple.

Here’s an example of what I mean …
No - ‘they’ didn’t do anything to Michael Vick, HE did it to himself. ‘They’ can’t do it to you unless you break the law. No one is holding this man accountable for his behavior.
Is carrying a football so important that someone who can do that should never be held accountable? If he’d been held accountable for his behavior in middle school or high school he probably would be more responsible today. It’s not fair to HIM to not hold him responsible.
