Our Senators are having a slumber party tonight. The Adolescent Ones are making a theatrical production out of their frustration that no one is listening to them. After all, they thought they were The Powerful Ones. Who are the American people to not believe what they’ve told us to believe? We’ve obviously been brainwashed.
Senate Democratic leaders are planning a rare all-night session tonight, employing theatrics and scheduling votes that they hope will chip away at Republican resolve to back President Bush’s Iraq war strategy.
Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) had hoped to convince Republicans to allow a simple-majority vote on a Democratic proposal to withdraw most U.S. troops from Iraq by next spring. But GOP leaders held firm to a 60-vote threshold for passage — a routine maneuver in today’s closely divided Senate but a number Democrats have been unable to meet all year. And Republicans decried Reid’s decision for a marathon session as a stunt. [source]
Apparently, the democrats don’t show up for regular voting sessions, why would they show up for a spend the night party?
This is what happens when people are voted into office by default. They think people voted FOR them. They don’t understand that people were actually voting AGAINST someone or something else. They got into office because people were mad at their opponents. Now we are stuck with Larry, Curly and Moe for Senators.
Reid is vowing to work on this until he gets the other side to cave in to his demands.
We’re going to continue working on this until we get a vote on this amendment. It’s unfortunate that President Bush has proven, beyond any doubt, that he won’t listen to the Congress or the American people unless he’s forced to, and that’s what this amendment does.
I hate to break it to Harry Reid, but the American people do not want our representatives wasting tax dollars playing these games.
I do believe they have completely misread the will of the people. The people do not want SURRENDER. AMERICANS DON’T SURRENDER. When the polls say that Americans are dissatisfied with the way the war is being run, that doesn’t mean we want our Troops taken out of the Middle East with their tails between their legs.
What we want is victory. We want our Soldiers to be allowed to fight and the chains to be taken off them. We want the politicians to quit interfering and giving aid, support and comfort to the enemy. We are dissatisfied that our Marines are being held prisoner because one traitorous Congressman decided to declare to the world that they kill ‘in cold blood’ on nothing but the word of a few enemy combatants.
What we want, no, what we EXPECT from our elected officials is to stop playing games and start listening to the people. Take your own agendas and throw them in the shredder and start paying attention to what is best for our country.
I can only speak for myself, but I am sick to death of all of them. They are nothing but traitors and cowards who are making themselves rich at the expense of the rest of us, particularly at the expense of our Soldiers.
Your wild-eyed crowing will get more Soldiers killed, Mr. Reid. Shut up, sit down, do your job and quit your theatrics.

I hope these guys are getting over time for making these beds up for the Senators! Sheesh.
Update: AP
While the issue was momentous - a war now in its fifth year costing more than 3,600 U.S. troops their lives - the proceedings were thick with politics.
MoveOn.org, the anti-war group, announced plans for more than 130 events around the country to coincide with the Senate debate, part of an effort to pressure Republicans into allowing a final vote on the legislation. A candlelight vigil and rally across the street from the Capitol was prominent among them, with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., expected to attend.
I would venture to say it’s ALL about politics. This isn’t about the war, it isn’t about our Troops. This is about politics and power.
This is MUCH too important and dire an issue to be dealt with by putting on a show and trying to garner support through force. The American people deserve better than this. Our Troops certainly deserve better.
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is standing up for our Troops!! He says the Troops ‘deserve our resolve …. It’s time to end this charade.’ EXACTLY!!!!

Michelle Malkin has open comments for discussion of this tonight.
Blackfive is reporting on Harry Reid’s attempts to hurry up and surrender before our Troops win.
The only thing the Caliphate Crusaders have learned is that Americans are still weak as schoolgirls when it comes to blood and struggle. They know they just need to outlast our attention and outrage span, because we sure don’t have a knack for strategy. We would rather feel good right now, than understand that we will reap a whirlwind that will cost so much more if we leave in defeat.
California Conservative can’t believe John Nichols thinks this is a smart move - I saw that too and couldn’t believe it either.
Mr. Nichols is too full of himself (or full of bovine matter) if he thinks this PR stunt will endear Senate Democrats to the American people.

Of course this is a stunt. As Mitch McConnell said (I am paraphrasing) “Too many of my colleagues are already asleep on Iraq.”
The MSM focuses on Republican defections but oddly fails to point out that 10 Democrats voted against the latest bill out of the House.
