Also, please keep our good blogging friend The Florida Masochist in your prayers as he deals with a recurrence of cancer after 12 years of being cancer free. Details are in his post. He’ll be going in for another diagnostic biopsy on September 18th.

Even so, Christians aren’t rioting, making death threats or putting out contracts on the ‘artist’. And still we are portrayed as the bad guys in the world. If she really wanted to be brave and make a statement about religious dogma, she might have painted a portrait of mohammad morphing with satan - can you imagine the reaction that would have gotten from the islamic world? The ‘artist’ and her supporters don’t even see the discrepancies between her portrayals and the real-world reactions to her ‘art’.

Conservative Thoughts has ongoing reports on the hearings of the Pendleton 8 (Marines charged with crimes while in combat in Haditha Iraq and publicly convicted by Congressman John ‘The Saboteur’ Murtha). Her current article is Haditha Article 32: SSgt. Frank Wuterich. Unfortunately, Murtha’s accusations made front page news and the exoneration of these Marines is passed over completely by the old media. People take their guilt as fact because that’s what was plastered all over the news when an Iraqi in an al-Qaeda infested town made the accusation against them. These Marines should be given medals, not court-martialed!

AubreyJ honors our fallen.

The Pirate’s Cove says Huckabee has lost North Carolina. Since when do Republican candidates endorse more government interference in the personal lives of American citizens? That won’t be well received.

David at Third World County also says that Mike Huckabee has jumped the shark.

My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy outlines yet another example of the lefts willingness to eat its own when that person doesn’t parrot the party line and steps out of the mold and thinks for themselves. There is a complete intolerance for independent thought. Remember what they did to Joe Lieberman? Now they have turned on Representative Brian Baird (D-WA) who has dared to step out of lock-step. Its a full out assault on him to either bring him back in line or oust him as they did Lieberman. The intolerant tolerant left strikes again.

I post this in honor of my son who is a tanker currently serving in Iraq. As of tomorrow he will be a Captain!! HOOAH!!! I’m so very proud of him and figure I have the right to brag about his promotion just a little (even though I was raised that its rude to brag and feel a little funny about it - but heh - he’s why I started this blog).

I told him I hope he doesn’t think this means he doesn’t have to mind me any more. He just typed ‘lol’. The truth is, he hasn’t ‘minded’ me in a long time, but I’m still his mother so we both pretend I’m still the boss of him anyway!!!

My daughter and her boyfriend are on their way here for a visit! Yippee!!! I haven’t seen her since she got in her little car with everything she owned and drove across country to live in California.

I still haven’t figured out why she decided to go to California. I really wish she had picked a place a little bit closer! But now she’s met this guy and they seem fairly serious about each other. All the more reason to worry about her deciding to just stay out there. I guess there will be a lot of flights back and forth until she comes to her senses and moves back to the South where God intended her to live! ;->

They won’t get here until 5 in the morning but I’m trying to clean house a little bit and get some groceries in, etc. I haven’t met this boyfriend yet, so the jury is out as to whether or not he is good enough for her. My Beloved Curmudgeon will make that decision within seconds of meeting him and will make sure we all know his decision. Actually, generally, my Beloved Curmudgeon doesn’t even have to meet one of her boyfriends before he’s got the entire situation figured out and is very sure the guys isn’t for her. I will say he hasn’t written this guy off yet, so this guy has gotten along better than most.

I may kidnap her and not let her go back out there! I miss the little darlin’!

Every once in a while you run across one of those “feel good stories”. Those stories that show us just what a person can do when they really want it bad enough. And Ken Leonard has one of those stories.

In 2005, Ken Leonard left his job as a police officer in High Point, North Carolina to go to Iraq to work with a private security firm. In December of that year, Ken, along with five other men in his vehicle and six others in the vehicle behind him, was hit by a roadside bomb outside of Baghdad. “After the bomb went off, I knew exactly what had happened,” Leonard recalled. “My feet got jarred, so I knew they were hit.” While others in his vehicle were injured, he had received the worst of it. He had lost both his feet.

The vehicle behind them pushed Leonard’s to a safer area. But flames were coming out of the air conditioning vents and they had to get out. Leonard crawled from the car and fell to the pavement. “That’s when I saw my feet,” he said. “I could tell they were gone. They were still attached, but they were shredded.”

On July 19, 2007, Ken Leonard went back to North Carolina to get his job back with the police force. To do that he needed to pass the Police Officers Physical Abilities Test, which, among other things, consisted of a 200-yard run to be finished in under 7 minutes, 20 seconds. And he did just that with 24 seconds to spare.

“Somebody told me one time they said, ‘You know, what you’ve lost is just bone and muscle. You’ve still got heart, and you’ve still got, you know, what’s up here,’” Leonard said, pointing to his head.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

The other day we had word that Castro had finally died. It was a rumor. I’ve decided the man will never die. He’s been a dead man walking for at least a year and yet he just keeps on popping up every time the rumors start that he’s finally gone on to his … reward.

This time he has reemerged and he’s endorsing a Hillary Clinton - Barack Obama ticket for the 2008 election.

Ailing Cuban leader Fidel Castro is tipping Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to team up and win the U.S. presidential election.

Clinton leads Obama in the race to be the Democratic nominee for the November 2008 election, and Castro said they would make a winning combination.

“The word today is that an apparently unbeatable ticket could be Hillary for president and Obama as her running mate,” he wrote in an editorial column on U.S. presidents published on Tuesday by Cuba’s Communist Party newspaper, Granma.

At 81, Castro has outlasted nine U.S. presidents since his 1959 revolution turned Cuba into a thorn in Washington’s side by building a communist society about 90 miles offshore from the United States.

He said all U.S. presidential candidates seeking the “coveted” electoral college votes of Florida have had to demand a democratic government in Cuba to win the backing of the powerful Cuban exile community.

Clinton and Obama, both senators, called for democratic change in Cuba last week. [source]

Like they say, you know people by the company they keep.

I suppose that would be a winning combination for Castro - or his party because I can’t imagine that he will continue to survive that long. I’m actually not convinced he’s still around, no one has seen him in public for a year and he was obviously wasting away with colon cancer then. He is only using written communications at this point. What do y’all think? Do you think they are just doing a Weekend at Bernie’s kinda thing with him?

As an aside, I thought it was interesting that he brought in Spanish doctors in hopes of getting effective treatment for his illness. I’m just thinking about Michael Moore asserting that Cuba has such an exemplary medical system, yet the dictator himself brings in foreign doctors to try to get help. Can you imagine the kind of medical care the underlings of that country get?

This powerful and thought provoking video was produced by an Australian children’s rights organization to bring attention to the role modeling adults provide for children. Its certainly something to think about.

Michael Vick gave a brief statement to the press following a hearing this morning in which he plead guilty to all the crimes he has adamantly denied and claimed were upsetting his mother.

He maintained his innocence and concern for what the accusations were doing to his mother right up until his co-defendants implicated him and he couldn’t lie his way out of it any longer.

Once it was determined his property was, indeed, used for dog fights, torturing and killing dogs and racketeering, he adamantly denied any knowledge his property was being used for such horrific activities. He was appalled. Shocked and appalled and concerned about how badly this was upsetting his mother.

When it got to the point he was trapped like a rat, he became remorseful for his participation in these events. He said that he had made some bad decisions because he was pressured by his childhood friends not to change when he became wealthy and famous.

His statement to the press this morning went something like this:

He added at the end of his statement that one good thing had come from this. He had found Jesus [and please don't take all his money away.]

Its a mystery to me as to why the Old Media insists on reporting the amateurish propaganda that comes out of the middle east while ignoring reporting any news stories that promote the best interest of the United States. Its a very strange phenomena that just defies explanation. Why would they want to undermine their own country and betray their own people?

The Old Media doesn’t even seem to particularly mind that the fake news is so obviously fake. It doesn’t matter much to them, as long as they get away with it. Even if they are caught at it, they can pretty much shrug it off. Getting caught in lies and propaganda is not a career ender most of the time.

The fake news has been coming out of the middle east, and possibly with the assistance of some Westerners, since at least 9/11/2001. Most recently we see the AFP report in the screenshot below. It is fake news presented to the American public as fact. Take notice of the inflammatory verbiage and imagery used. An elderly woman. The ‘bullets’ hit her house (pay attention to the condition of the shiny ‘bullets’ she is holding up - they haven’t hit anything). 175 people were ’slaughtered’. Pictures and words are powerful.

Doesn’t leave much of a question as to whose side the writer of this article is on.

Unfortunately, there are many people who don’t pay close enough attention to see that the bullets aren’t bullets at all, but UNUSED cartridges. Many people only get the talking points, the sound bites or the headlines and take that as fact. The result of the barrage of often ridiculous propaganda is a whittling away of public support for our military and therefore the weakening of the defenses for America.

Our Soldiers were once heroes and their image has gradually been undermined to the point they are viewed as ignorant, uneducated, sadistic barbarians. They are the ones who stand between us and danger and yet our own media feeds us a constant diet of ‘the troops are bad’ and ‘muslims are oppressed by us’ and ‘muslims only cut off people’s heads because we are oppressing them’ and ‘we are the bad guys and they are the good guys.’ The lies defy all common sense, but they are repeated enough times that people start believing it.

As LindaSog wrote about this particular piece of propaganda:

And although it made us angry, still, we laughed. We laughed because it’s so ridiculous that it’s funny. Except… it’s not really funny. It’s not funny because there are people out there who are foolish and ignorant enough to believe the mainstream media and their made-up version of reality. And that’s scary, not funny.

One of the best ways to counter those who take themselves way too seriously and continue to put out this kind of propaganda is to make fun of them. The Dissident Frogman has done an exceptionally good job of that in this video. He explains how the ‘bullet’ (cartridges) the elderly woman is holding could not have hit her house.
