If you go dumpster diving in places like the Democratic Underground you see the raging paranoia of progressives who seem to seriously believe they are being politically persecuted. They talk about their fear of being rounded up and hauled off because of their political beliefs. I supposed that’s why they post those beliefs all over the internet for every one to read.
Anyway …. from ABC News, Americans are moving to Canada in numbers that rival the numbers who moved there as draft dodgers during the Vietnam War. The vast majority of those moving are liberals.
The current increase appears to be fueled largely by social and political reasons, says Jedwab, based on anecdotal evidence.
“Those who are coming have the highest level of education — these aren’t people who can’t get a job in the states,” he says. “They’re coming because many of them don’t like the politics, the Iraq War and the security situation in the U.S. By comparison, Canada is a tension-free place. People feel safer.”
One recent immigrant is Tom Kertes, a 34-year-old labor organizer who moved from Seattle to Toronto in April.
Kertes attributes his motivation to President Bush’s opposition to gay marriage, and the tactics employed during the war on terror since 9/11.
“I wanted a country that respected my human rights and the rights of others,” he says. “We joked about it after Bush won re-election, but it took us a while to go through the application.”
Kertes, who moved with his partner, is happy in his new home. “Canada is a really nice country. My mother is thinking about it. My stepfather has diabetes and has health issues. So, he’d be taken care of for free if he moved up here.”
His stepfather will get free health care alright, but he’ll be waiting in line for it a very long time.
Well, Americans who have not liked America have moved to Canada since King George of England gave Loyalists homesteads there following the Revolutionary War. I will say this about Canada. It’s easy to be pacifists and have a carefree, stress free lifestyle when you have the Arctic to your north, frozen oceans to the east and west and a benign super power to your south. They are protected from all sides.
There are still more Canadians migrating to the United States than progressives migrating to Canada. But we seem to be moving in the right direction. The Hollywood progressives are still here though. This article gives me hope that even they might move on up to Canada to get away from the political persecution they suffer here in the States.
I was wondering … how many people ARE being rounded up and thrown into prison for their political opinions in the States? I can’t seem to find any numbers on political prisoners in the States. I’m sure the people at Democratic Underground could help us out with that.

BSC: Well, some of my best friends are Canucks, so as a rule I don’t like to bad-mouth them. However, they are protected geographically and therefore are pretty safe running their mouths about us.
