The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk is getting geared up for this year’s walk. This event is the largest of it’s kind in the nation. Since the first Memory Walk in 1989 the Memory Walk has raised awareness and $225 million for Alzheimer care, support and research.
Memory Walks are held in hundreds of communities across the country. These walks are organized and lead by volunteers. The participants in the walks are of all ages and are community based. By participating in a Memory Walk volunteers become more aware of the disease and its effect on individuals, families and communities.
You can become a Team Captain and organize a walk in your community and now is the time to do just that. If you go ahead and sign up to be a Team Captain now you will have plenty of time to recruit and raise funds for the very worth while cause. If you are like me the very thought of fundraising makes you hesitate. Fundraising is not really a problem with an event like this. You have a well known and respected cause in the Alzheimer’s Association and the use of materials and resources through their website. They really have everything you will need to have a successful Memory Walk in your community. There are already corporate sponsors listed on the website.
You can find more information about volunteering here.
Whether or not you decide to be a Team Captain, I hope you will check out the Alzheimer’s Association website and see how you can participate. There is bound to be a level of participation that is right for you. This is a very manageable walk. Typically, the walks are 2 to 3 miles long and held on a weekend in the fall.
Every participant has an effect on the entire project. Participation in the yearly Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk has a huge impact on the lives of people living with Alzheimer’s.
