Nine Rescue workers have been injured while working on rescue efforts of the miners who have been trapped by a collapse of Crandall Canyon mines for 10 days now.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time this evening. There were nine workers injured and taken away in ambulances. All rescue efforts have been stopped while checking that all rescue workers are accounted for.

There will be a news conference from the hospital shortly.

UPDATE 10:58 p.m. (Eastern Time): Hospital CEO gives a press conference and basically says nothing new. He just confirms that the rescue workers have been taken to the hospital. Nothing new.

UPDATE 11:00 p.m. (Eastern Time): There are now confirmed 10 rescue workers who have been transported to the hospital. Their conditions are listed as ’serious’ two are listed as ‘very serious’.

UPDATE 11:45 p.m. (Eastern Time): The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that the reason there is a discrepancy in the numbers of injured rescue workers is because one of the rescue workers has died. This is not confirmed but it is speculated that this is why there is so little information coming out about what has happened.

UPDATE11:58: p.m. (Eastern Time): There is confirmation that one of the rescue workers has died in the accident that occurred at 6:30 p.m. (Mountain Time) in the Crandall Canyon mines while workers were continuing efforts to rescue trapped miners from a collapse that occurred 10 days ago.

One rescuer was killed in a cave-in tonight during the search and rescue operation for six trapped miners in the Crandall Canyon mine.
”All rescue workers have been evacuated from the mine. Nine rescue workers were injured in the accident. One of those suffered fatal injuries,” said Dirk Fillpot, a spokesman for the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration.
However, a Castleview Hospital official said as many as 11 people were involved in the accident. Three at the hospital in Price are listed in very serious condition, he said.

UPDATE12:30: a.m. (Eastern Time): Current press conference confirms the death reported earlier. Three of the miners have been life-flighted to larger hospitals in Salt Lake City indicating more serious injuries than can be treated at the smaller local hospital.

UPDATE1:00: a.m. (Eastern Time): Hospital spokesperson reports that a second rescue mine worker has died for injuries sustained in the accident earlier tonight.
