I support and commend your son and all of our soldiers for their courage and sense of honor and duty. I support the troops wholeheartedly and without reservation. But I think our political leaders have not supported our troops with the numbers of troops they need to do an effective job and the war-fighting materials they should and must have, and even worse have tasked them with a mission and a exit strategy that is unworthy of their sacrifices. It must be possible to support the troops and still recognize that they have been sent in for the wrong reasons. I would invite that debate, rather than saying "we must support the mission to show we support the troops".

Beth...such a profound post. I agree with every single word you said.
Early on, I think I did threaten to shoot my sister in knee if she got sent back to the sandbox..but we both knew I was joking. I respect every decision she makes, and the same goes for my nephew and brother in law. I, too, am tired of the few protecting all. I think we have more candy asses now than during Nam...and I would do anything to see the draft reinstated.
I'd join up myself but I've been told they won't go along with my "everyone go to your room til y'all can play nice" plan. Sigh.
