Any of us can be a part of World Alzheimer’s Day and do a lot to help raise funds and awareness to combat this horrific disease.

World Alzheimer’s Day is Friday, September 21, 2007 so time is running out, but there is still time to get involved. You can find all the information you need by going to their website, but I’ll hit some of the highlights here.

Their goal is to reach $1 million dollars for the Alzheimer’s Association and as of today they are at 38% towards that goal. There are several ways you can help if you would like to be a part of this magnificent event and really make a contribution to this cause. You can host a Purple Party. The website has everything you need to know about hosting a socially responsible Purple Party including suggestions for three different types of parties you can host. The detailed instructions and party kits make it easy to be a host. They even provide the menus, decor and activities appropriate for each kind of party (formal, gourmet cocktail, or dessert). They provide invitations, donations forms and follow-ups that you can download from the website. Of course, you can create you own if you prefer.

When you register your Purple Party online, you will be able to create your own party page and send email reminders to your guests. If a guest is unable to attend the party, they can make donations online. The first 500 people to register for their party and pledge to raise $150 will receive a special Party On Kit. So don’t waste any time getting over there!

The Party On Kit includes:

  • A DVD of Alzheimer’s Celebrity Champions
  • Speaking points about Alzheimer’s
  • Donation forms and envelopes
  • Cocktail napkins
  • Thank you cards

When you think of it, $150 isn’t that much to raise, especially with all the help provided through the World Alzheimer’s Daywebsite. Every dollar raised in September will be matched dollar-for-dollar by The Harrah’s Foundation. So the $150 or more you raise will do twice as much good for raising awareness of Alzheimer’s during this event.
