The people of Burma are struggling for their freedom and their very lives. Monks and nuns started a peaceful demonstration only to be shot and brutalized at the hands of the repressive Myanmar government. Still, the protest grew. The people have come out in the hundreds of thousands to stand with the monks and nuns and face the fierce and brutal crackdown aimed at killing the spirit of the protesters and any resistance to the regime in power.
I have read that many of the protesters are disheartened because of the overwhelming odds they are facing, but still they face the brutality of one of the the worst military dictatorships in the world. The people long to be free and pray for democracy. They are willing to face death or imprisonment rather than continue to live under their tormentors. It is estimated that at least 3,000 people have died in these protests.
We can help them. We can put pressure on the UN Security Council and China to put pressure on the Burmese rulers to stop the killing. We can use the power of the blogs to get that done. I’ve signed the petition here pledging that those signing will hold the UN Security Council and China accountable for any further killings.
There are well over 550,000 signatures now. They need 1,000,000. Will you help stop the killing? Will you sign your name?
Photos of the protests: [warning - don't click on these links if you don't have the stomach to see what these people are going through. Its brutal.] here, here, here and here.
