I missed this post when I went to visit the Draft General Pace website earlier this evening! I wish I had seen it then. I found it in a round about way through Extreme Mortman. He applauds the writers of Draft General Pace for being able to connect Eisenhower, Russell Crowe and General Pace in one post.

This is the post he is referring to:

In 1952, the Draft Eisenhower movement persuaded another great American Patriot to run for elected office. This grassroots movement eventually led to the nomination and election of Dwight D. Eisenhower. This grassroots movement has one goal: to recruit Gen Peter Pace to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by John Warner in Virginia.

Marcus Aurelius: Won’t you accept this great honor that I have offered you?
Maximus: With all my heart, no.
Marcus Aurelius: Maximus, that is why it must be you.

This quote is from the movie Gladiator, the 2000 film starring Russell Crowe.

I agree, its bold.

After I read the post it made sense to me. I don’t know what that says about me, but I understood the connection. Duty, honor, integrity. Serving at the will of the people rather than out of service to his own ego. Serving because he is needed, not because he needs to serve. It makes sense.
