I know there are some who will take offense to me saying that Hollywood is warring against America rather than that Hollywood is warring against the military or the war in Iraq. The problem as I see it is that when it comes to America being at war, its one in the same. I don’t have a problem with anyone who doesn’t like this policy or that policy. We all have differing opinions. That’s why we have a Republic - so that our representatives can make these decisions based (hopefully) on what the majority of their constituents want. So its not about disagreeing with the war or any other action or non-action our country takes. Its about undermining the United States of America while she is at war. THAT is unacceptable. That is a war against America.
Our enemies abroad are doing their best to undermine the war effort. They put out propaganda and they hammer away at the reputation and image of our military. They are like a gnat that just keeps on buzzing around a lion hoping that eventually the lion will get tired of them and go away. That’s the only way they can fight us.
Our enemies within help the enemies abroad do that in many ways. The news media with their propaganda disguised as news stories. I see story after story on alleged news programs that are nothing more than glossy propaganda pieces for whatever cause they are touting. There have been a lot for socialized medicine lately.
And then there is Hollywood.
What does Hollywood have against the United States in general and against our Soldiers in particular? I just don’t get it. I don’t understand why they persist in actively working to undermine our military, the war and ultimately the United States.
The Hollywood Fall Offensive is coming in the form of slick movies with A-List stars.
Tom Miller gives a great review of In the Valley of Elah by director-writer Paul Haggis who has openly stated that the film is ‘a political ‘Trojan Horse’ disguised as a murder mystery’.
There are lots of soldiers in this film, but not one is cast in a positive light. Not one. In Haggis’ world, Iraq-combat vets constitute a scary demographic.
None is a hero. None does his duty honorably. None is a loving husband and father. Or, a friend watching a buddy’s back.
On the other hand . . . They torture their wounded enemy. They run down innocent Iraqi children. They redeploy home without telling their anxious parents. They frequent tawdry strip clubs. They drown their wives. They murder and dismember their buddies. They dissemble. They cover-up.
Not ONE soldier or officer does the right thing.
The story is supposedly ‘inspired’ by a true story. That means there is a thread of truth in some little aspect of the story. Perhaps some anti-war guy lost his son in Afghanistan and that is the sum total of truth in the story. The problem is, by declaring it as ‘inspired by a true story’ they give it credibility regardless of how little truth there is in the story.
Undermining the credibility of our military undermines the United States. Undermining the United States puts us all at great risks. These Hollywood ’stars’ have chosen sides. They are siding with the gnats that are constantly chipping away at our ability to defend ourselves against our enemies.

Yes, those movies using the “inspired by a true story” line does not necessarily mean the movie is a reenactment of the actual event nor is any part of it non-fictional in nature. It’s a story/movie that someone came up with when they heard about a true event — nothing more.
It’s a shame that many people think such movies are a source of authority on a particular subject.

Charlize Theron is Beautiful ……
…. but she may not be all that bright.
You might know Charlize Theron as the beautiful South African movie star who has recently become an American citizen and spends her time and fame criticizing America. I haven’t figured out why she both…

Perhaps, when America and its military start behaving with honor, more like they did in WWII, maybe Hollywood won’t have a reason to cast such a negative light.
It’s also sad that people do not know how to watch movies, or understand stories. For some reason, people often assume that once something is published, it is either true, or is attempting to state a fact. There is such a thing as symbolism, metaphor, archetype, etc that is used to communicate an idea, not state facts.
And although it isn’t every soldier, it IS true that there were some horrible and disgusting violations of human rights done by a *group* of American soldiers, on “the enemy”. So, that movie is certainly based on more than just some anti war dude losing a son in the army.
Maybe if the people who run things started actually listening to the whole populace, not just the richest or the whitest or the most christian, there would be less complaining. This is why the first amendment was written. But honestly, with the attitude that people throw around about how “unpatriotic” it is to dissent, I won’t be surprised if we start finding ourselves arrested for disagreeing.
