I was reading this article at TimesOnline about plastic surgery. A slim, fit 27-year-old Brit went to three different major plastic surgery companies in the United Kingdom to get a feel for how they operated. She came away from two of those companies feeling like she might just need the surgery even though she says she had never considered plastic surgery and was confident of her appearance.

While I don’t see any problem with getting a little work done here and there, I do think that going under the knife should happen after you have tried other options.

  • The article makes some sensible suggestions on when and how to find a good plastic surgeon in the UK.
  • Make sure your surgeon is registered with the General Medical Council – www.gmc-uk.orgCheck that they have done further studies in plastic surgery by looking for “FRCS Plast” after their name
  • Seek a practitioner who is also a member of either the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons or the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons. Visit www.baaps.org.uk and www.bapras.org.uk
  • Ask the clinic to put you in touch with patients who have undergone a similar procedure with your surgeon
  • Visit at least two surgeons before you commit
