I know this isn’t earth shattering news, but I just saw one of the commercials that irritate me and since I’m sitting here you get to hear about it.

One: The commercial where people see someone doing something nice for someone and then they go do something nice for someone and on and on until the niceness goes full circle. Like pushing a coffee cup off the edge of a table or holding the door for someone would not occur to someone if they didn’t see someone else do something nice a few minutes earlier.

I realize what they are trying to point out, I guess. Well, they are trying to sell insurance. But aside from selling insurance they are trying to make some point about how the little things we do have a ripple effect and you never know who is going to be affected by what you do …. etc. Still, they are just trying to sell insurance and I have yet to know anything about an insurance company that did anything other than to try NOT to pay your bill as per the contract. Its just about the money so don’t pretend its about anything else.

Plus, do you REALLY never think to be thoughtful unless you see someone else being thoughtful first?

That just irritates me. I hate that commercial.

Two: This one doesn’t irritate me QUITE as much only because I haven’t seen it as often. I suspect in time it might irritate me more than the first one.

There is this guy sitting there talking ever so sincerely into the camera telling it (us) that he worked his way up in the world to the point that he now owns his own business. He’s set things up so that he can help his daughter own her own business. He says that he’s built a business THAT IS WHO HE IS and wants his daughter to have a business THAT IS WHO SHE IS.

That just flies all over me! Your business is who you are?? How sad is THAT!

I don’t even know what they are selling. Its probably an investment company or bank or something. I get so irritated listening to that guy talking about his business being WHO HE IS that I really don’t hear it after that. I just shut it out.

I mean, is that REALLY what you want out of life? To be defined by how you make a living. What about your family? Your friends? Who you are as a person?

That just irritates the daylights out of me.
