My precious Soldier Son came online for just a couple of minutes yesterday. A message from him popped up on my computer screen that read, ‘24 hours!’ That was all it said but I knew what he meant. We are down to hours before he starts his trek back to the real world.
The past month has crawled by at a snails pace. The past week has been excruciatingly slow. Yesterday just didn’t seem to move at all. I just wanted to hear that he was on his way back to Germany.
Messages from him popped up on my computer all evening, which means he was up all night. I would answer him but he’d rarely come right back to me. He was busy doing some last minute things, getting ready to leave. At one point he wrote ‘You’ve made me famous LOL’. He told me his replacement had googled FOB Falcon and up had popped a post I’d done with an email he’d written. His replacement had told him he was on the computer. My son had said, yeah that’s his mama. He said he didn’t mind. He doesn’t seem to be minding much at all right now.
So I’m preoccupied and haven’t been able to concentrate enough to write on any of the things I would normally like to write about. All I really want is to hear that he’s on his way back. He’s had two birthdays and a Christmas in Baghdad. Its time to get a break from that and its time to not only see him, but to spend a little time with him.
In a month we’ll all be in Germany celebrating his wedding.

My son is there now. Part of the 6-8 Cav. He’s been at Falcon for just over a month now. I’m glad your son is on his way out safe and sound and for the next fourteen months I’ll be waiting on mine to come home. God bless you both for your sacrifice. Merry Christmas!
