I enlisted in September of 1973 and retired 20 years later. Free ride, indeed. I made six major deployments aboard USS Independence, USS Ranger and USS Kitty Hawk. At the end of my career, I made extended workups and shakedowns aboard USS Nimitz and USS George Washington. The only thing free about these 20 years were that they were freely given to my country. I had a lottery number in the last draft. So don't get sanctimonious on anyone in uniform. Just because you didn't have the sand to serve doesn't give you the right to pass judgement on those who serve from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs on down the chain of command. Just remember this Chuck, WE ARE BETTER THAN YOU! On any day of the week. Pass on to Reid, Clintoon, Boxer, Feinstein, Lautenberg, Byrd, etc. Oh yeah don't forget Pelosi and Company in the House.
