Why does the focus have to be on the mothers? When it comes to losing a family member in combat, I can tell you first hand that the fathers are practically forgotten. We have lost just as much and grieve just as much if not more than the mothers do. I live every day not knowing what will trigger one of those moments where despair almost knocks the wind out of me. The innocent and not so innocent statements from people.. This wound does not heal. I was the last person in my family to get to hug my son when he deployed. I talked with him the night before he was killed. The only people who care about the men in the loop have been the military, past and present.

Fozzy - I agree with you completely. I think that women are probably more likely to form support groups. That would be the only reason I can imagine that there are more ‘mothers’ groups than ‘fathers’ groups. It certainly isn’t an indication of who grieves more.
When I think of Blue Star or Gold Star families, I think of the families - not just the mothers, fathers or siblings. All are affected.
