Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama relates to the little people. No. Really. She does.

She went and talked to a group of those little people at a meeting in Zanesville, Ohio. The women were working class women struggling with the struggles that working class women struggle with. Michelle told them she has those struggles too. She knows what its like. She told them so.

Zanesville, Ohio ‘Everywhere I go, no matter what, the women in the audience, their first question for me is, ‘How on earth are you managing it, how are you keeping it all together?’

Fortunately, her mother lives down the street so she helps …. and her husband is raising $55 million a month for his presidential bid. I imagine the women in that room would have felt some relief from the weight of their problems with $55 million a month.

But it gets worse for Michelle.

‘I know we’re spending - I added it up for the first time - we spend between the two kids, on extracurriculars outside the classroom, we’re spending about $10,000 a year on piano and dance and sports supplements and so on and so forth,’ Mrs. Obama tells the women. ‘And summer programs. That’s the other huge cost. Barack is saying, ‘Whyyyyyy are we spending that?’ And I’m saying, ‘Do you know what summer camp costs?’

Well! Then she really does have something to sob about. Why’d she decide to sit down and figure out how much they were spending. See, only people who have money don’t have to know exactly what they spend on everything. Boo - freakin’ - hoo.

But she doesn’t want you to worry about her. She’s strong. She’ll manage.

With all those concerns, one might wonder whether the women should be comforting Mrs. Obama, but she assures them that she’s really O.K. ‘We don’t complain because we’ve got resources because of our education. We’ve got family structure,’ she says. ‘So I tell people don’t cry for me.’

Why does the image of Evita come to mind when I read this?

I’m sure everyone is crying for her …. and opening their worn out checkbooks to be sure they don’t have to give another moments thought to how much they pay for piano, dance and summer camp. Oh, never mind, she doesn’t actually worry about those things. I forgot, she just figured out how much they spend for the first time. Not to mention, her salary was tripled conveniently as soon as her husband got into a position of power in the Senate. As soon as he was elected her salary jumped from $121,910 per year to $316,962 per year.

Oh, that reminds me. She also told the women she related to how they had to work long hours, 60 and 80 hours a week. She said she had to do the same. Of course, the women in the room are working those hours for $30,000 per year, not $300,000 per year (plus perks, gifts, freebies and benefits galore).

BTW, just remember, the Obamas want you to give up corporate jobs and work in the service industries as your duty to your nation. They will take care of silly things like money so you won’t have to worry about things like that. Do as they say, not as they do.

So Christian Dior her from her head to her toes.
