I have a history of working with charities that have only survived because of the assistance of caring people in the business world. In this day and age it is very difficult for a charity to thrive without the assistance of corporate America. That’s why I was interested in reading about a businessman who is helping out Reserve Aid.

Reserve Aid is a 501(c)3 non-profit agency that supports families of our military reservists who are called to active combat or homeland security duty. When the reservists are called up they usually have to make the transition from civilian life to active military life very quickly. I have known a few people in this situation and I know that its very difficult, both emotionally and financially, for them and for their families.

John Dondero is the Managing Partner and President of Highland Capital Management. He has a history of philanthropic giving both personally and through Highland Capital Management and its subsidiaries. He has now made a significant, undisclosed financial contribution to Reserve Aid. The Executive Director of Reserve Aid stated, “Mr. Dondero’s support for our organization has enabled us to expand the number of cases we can consider and establish a foundation to grow our operation.”

It is good to see corporate America pulling together to help support our Troops in whatever ways they can. In my mind, this makes Mr. Dondero a patriot.
