The Minutemen have a new partner in their efforts to guard our southern border. This new group of citizen border guards are using high end technology to keep an eye on the border. This new incarnation of Minutemen are called TechnoPatriots.

Currently, there are about 90 TechnoPatriots around the country. They can provide help with watching the borders regardless of where they are. All they need is a computer that is networked with a system of cameras that are on the border. Any one of them can use their mouse to maneuver the camera to pan the area he’s watching. TechnoPatriots are as far away from the border as New York or Nebraska.

The TechnoPatriots claim that from the program’s launch in November through late March, they made 160 sightings that led to 118 people getting caught. The Border Patrol could not confirm those numbers, saying it does not log the names or affiliations of tipsters.

Even if the number is accurate, it is an extremely small share of the more than 1,000 people caught every day in the Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, which includes most of the Arizona-Mexico border.

Nevertheless, Tucson sector spokesman Jesus “Chuy” Rodriguez said of the TechnoPatriots: “Any time that you can get people to call in and report illegal activity, that’s helpful to us. If we can go out and verify, that’s a good call.”

It seems to me that this is pretty much the American way. We have always been a self-reliant people and it looks like most of us still are. If there’s something that needs doing, we don’t generally wait on ‘the government’ to do it. Most of us understand that WE are the government and when there’s work to be done we just need it hike up our pants and do it.

Good for you guys! I’d love to watch the border some myself.

Happy Sunday! Another gorgeous day in America. This pinup is by Gil Elvgren, and she sure doesn’t look bitter in her small home town with her gun and her God. What do you think?
