My Soldier Son is making me a grandmother. I’m not anywhere near old enough (in my own mind, anyway) and am still in shock. But, its true, I’m going to be a grandmother.

Soldier Son and Daughter-in-Law
My precious Soldier Son is making me a grandmother!!! I have had a bit of a hard time wrapping my mind around this. I still see myself as a sweet young thing - so how can I be a grandmother????
He married his little Fraulein just after he returned from his 15 month tour of duty in Baghdad. In fact, they married just two weeks after he got back to Germany and just two days before Christmas. But Christmas in Germany is on the 6th of December, so I guess it was after Christmas for them.
I’ve known it for a couple of weeks, but honestly think I’ve been in shock and haven’t told many people. She went to the doctor this week and the little jelly bean had a heart beat. Apparently, in Germany they won’t ‘officially’ declare you pregnant until they see the heartbeat. Well, they’ve seen the heartbeat so she’s telling the world now.
My son sounds very excited and has suddenly become an expert in everything pregnancy and parenting related. We’ve had a couple of long conversations about it all. I think he was in shock himself until last week. At least, he sounded like he was.
I had a wonderful summer with the two of them and my daughter and her boyfriend visiting. I didn’t spend as much time on the blog because they were all here. My daughter and her boyfriend were only here for one week, but my son was here for two months. He didn’t mean to be here that long, but he injured his back while he was here and was stuck until he could get an epidural so that he could endure the trip back to Germany. His wife stayed for about two weeks and then had to return to work. As much as I hated him having a back injury, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend some time with him. Its been a VERY long time since he and I have spent any time together, especially without a zillion of his friends around. It was the first time he had been in the States for more than a couple of hurried days in three years.
Anyway, that’s my news. Grandmother Beth here!!! I’ll have to figure out what I want the little German to call me
I’ll pass on the German term, ‘Oma’. I’ll think of something

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I highly recommend grandmotherhood, it is great. I don’t blame you for not wanting to be called “Oma” but you will come up with something clever.
Love you!
