Fall Colors!!
Monday, September 22, 2008 is the first day of fall. That’s today. Its Autumn Equinox 2008. Maybe we should name a holiday for that. I used to hate fall because it meant that winter was coming and as a diehard Southern girl, I hated to be cold. But as I’ve gotten older, I find the cooler weather a relief from the heat of the summer.
Fall is just perfect. As you can see from the photos, the colors in my yard are gorgeous. We’ve closed the pool and even though I miss having it open, I love not having the expense of that pump running 24/7.
We had to cut down one of the most beautiful trees in our yard this year. It made me sad to lose it. It turned bright red and hung over the outside stairs leading to the pool and deck area. I loved that tree, but it had to be cut down. Already, there’s a much smaller one taking its place, but it’ll be a while before it stands as big as its parent tree.

beth……what lovely colors! my trees are starting to change beautifully too. i have a liquid amber tree that was planted in 1915 outside my breakfast nook windows and a virginia creeper vine hanging over the pergola right there too so in about a month it will be a glowing mass of ruby red. i love this time of year….
