Dr. Burgess, stick to your guns and the wishes of the majority of your constituents.

This bailout is a bandaid and does nothing to eliminate the cause of the problem which is the out of control practices of Fannie May and Freddie Mac.

Kathy ought to do a little investigating about this situation before she whines about her 401k. She is not alone. Everyone is suffering, but we have to let the market shake out. The businesses that caused this problem should pay for their blunders…not the tax payer. And certainly not a bailout which is a temporary fix.

As I write this, congress is on vacation so how much of a giant crisis is this? If WW3 was starting would they also take a holiday? I also notice the market has recovered half of what it lost yesterday.

NO to the bailout!!!

My husband and I thank you for standing up under all the pressure that was exerted on the house to make a “snap” decision while being called unpatriotic. That is always their reply whether actual war or war on our finances.

Wall Street crooks created this mess and they want to slam more debt down the throats of the American people. Thank you for having a back bone and demanding the necessary time to study what was actually in the bill. Plus, according to one of the earlier drafts in section 8 those bastards wrote in that the bill would not be “reviewable”. Well, what does that tell you. These crooks will try to slam something through under martial law time so that our leaders do not have time to review it and they left our leaders out of the process of debate.

The crooks on Wall Street need to pay for this by going to jail and being fined from their personal coffers. They can liquate all of their personal assets!!

We applaud you and Marcy Kaptur
for having a backbone! We need more of you and Marcy!!

Wow, you’ve got me scared American. Toronto’s TSX I just noticed is going in the tank. Canada’s largest stock market. Ugly stuff, I hope they can come to an agreement or stick a cork in this thing somehow.
I feel bad for those invested in the Markets especially.
I sold mine after that last crash (the 911, “dot bomb” drop)after losing about 30% and have never gone back.
Lucky me, i guess.
Won’t matter much though if things go real bad.
Honestly, “Liberals” and “Democrats” are the worst managers, I was tempted to blame Bush for this but the more I hear the more this looks like some Bill Clinton stuff coming back to haunt all of us, best of luck to everyone.

America is way too capitalist to easily pass this so-called ‘bailout’. We should realize what this ‘rescue package’ really is - a nail in the coffin of free market, and a firm pillar in the foundation of laying down a classic Marxist American economy, in line with the global push for a global socialist secular state.
But how long can hardcore Americans fight the rising tide? Not long. So this economic revolution will be accomplished, and then it’s bye bye to the real spirit of free marker capitalism as we have known it over the past 100 years. And I cringe to think even the media has buried its head as to the real agenda lurking slyly below the rising tide.
I acknowledge that the roller coaster corporate world needs a heavy dose of social conscience, but state intervention is never a good thing. Isn’t the Republicans supposed to be about lesser government?
As to Obama having a solution, well I seriously doubt that. Obama’s genius is not in originality, but in consensus building. And what America and the world need is genius - originality of thinking, not politicians looking to please people to win votes. The economic crisis is exposing the glaring lack of courageous leadership in this courageous land - a sad thing for the world community.

I love the blame game. Some idiot running for president tries to blame the idiot that is president for a problem that was caused by the Federal Reserve, Congress, and a compliant media.
Kathy, if this bill passed, your ira would be worth almost nothing when the dust settles. Inflation will rob us all of any savings we have. Furthermore, this isnt necessarily going to stop the Fed from just printing up 700 billion dollars and flooding the market with it anyways. Barney Frank, and everyone else in congress has been warned for years that this was coming, they just chose not to listen. So sit back, relax, and just let big brother take care of the little sheep.

Republicans have had congress for a long time, Dems get in for 2 years - stifled by a moron president, and thats enough for you to shift blame.

I dont know that Im in favor of this bailout, certainly dont want it - but it may be necessary. To hear conservatives talking about OTHERs accountability and let the market self regulate is inane given the demonstrated results of that practice.

McCain has lost us indpendents with his steady move back right, reversing on regulation - conflicting with his own running mate.

You want power back? Get pragmatic and drop the idealistic crap. Dont make the masses suffer for the MASSIVE mistakes of the few.

There is absolutely NO reason why Republicans should expect the Democrats to provide all the necessary votes to pass this stinker. My opinion is this: I HATE this deal, but if it HAS to be done to save the Republic, then EVERYONE SHOULD VOTE FOR IT - either the Congress decides to all get into the boat and row together to get us out of this mess, or let us all SINK! I’m sick of the partisan politics on both sides and I want this to STOP. Anyone who doesn’t vote for the bailout and is up for re-election, should either QUIT or lose their seat! GET THIS DONE OR FIX IT SO IT HELPS THE LITTLE GUY INSTEAD OF BAILING OUT THE BIG BAD WOLVES OF WALL STREET!!!

I am very tired of this whole situation. While you people cannot reach a conclusion to vote for this bill my husband and I are losing an extreme amount of money in our IRA. We depend on this money to live out our lives. Get your act together and come up with a bill to fix this economy! Stop worrying about your constituents. As far as we are concerned the Republicans dropped the ball during the first 6 yrs by not regulating and overseeing this mess. That is not to say the Democrats also are guilty among a lot of other people in this world. STOP BLAIMING AND GET ON WITH IT!!!
